OK,apologies for being such a numpty but could someone explain "Sim free" to me please?
My 18mt contract with T-Mobile is up in March.I currently have unlimited txts,600 and 1GB of data. This was supposed to be £35 a month mut my bills are always at least £45.
Voicemail costs and any 08numbers,plus VAT plus being completely stung on occasional trips abroad and of course picture messaging.
I have an HTC desire HD which I am ambivalent about but I really need to cut my monthly bill to a max of £30 per mt all in.
Is this possible do you reckon whilst keeping the same benefits (or even better she says hopefully)??

For a start, remove voice mail! or at least leave a message asking people to text! This saved me over £10 a month! I didn't realise how much it was costing to check messages that really weren't important, if you can't get to your phone and it's urgent they will call back, otherwise they can text.
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions

sim free relates to a handset that isnt lockedto a network
you are thinking of sim only
basically the network isnt supplying you a phone and as such should be able to offer a far better contract deal.
    this is
T mobiiles basic sim only deals (note the option of a 30 day rolling contract,or 12 month contract)
    http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/sim-only/tariffs/
however as an exisiting customer,I would phone them and see what deal they offer

where did you get your phone?

I'm on O2 sim free contact. 300 mins, unlimited o2 calls, unlimited texts and unlimited data and wifi for £10.21 per month.

Please can you give us a link to this deal - I just checked the O2 website and the closest deal to that is £21 per month, and that gives 500mb data and limited O2 to O2 calls.

  • Thanks for the voicemail tip!

Got the phone from Carphone Warehouse but is obviously, currently tied to T-Mobile. I am not in love with my phone and whilst I would like to change to a Samsung Galaxy,it would be spending money I can ill afford to.Sim free sounds like a good option from March onwards then.....Thank you!

    Oh Thank you THANK YOU.

I'm looking to upgrade my phone, and was hoping for a good deal to get either a Galaxy S2 or an iPhone 4.

This is deffo the best price I've found so I'll use this to bargain with Vodafone now - have to stick with them for my business account.

    Cheers jenhugs
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

    oh no no
CPW sometimes provide sim free handsets
which means you would be open to all networks
however sometimes means your handset maybe locked
T mobile would be able to supply an unlock code for a cost
obviously that needs weighing against possible savings on monthly fees

Get around t-mobile's voicemail charges by using the HullloMail app. It's very easy to set up and use, best of all it's completely free.
  • oooh...that sounds interesting-thank you...off to look now!

your cost is £455 over 2 years
the 12 month is £382,then at that point you are contract free
either sell the phone or drop to sim free,I'm currently on an £8 per month sim free deal. 300 mins, unl texts,500mb data and wifi inclusive

each to their own I simply wouldnt be tied for 2 years

Dont forget though that the £455 cost is for 2 years mobile phone usage. The £382 only covers 1 year usage. Therefore you need to add £96 (8 x 12) to cover the cost of the sim only price for 1 year to be able to compare both options. This makes the 2 year deal cheaper by £23 then the one year contract + 1 year sim only deal.

yeah for sure, however theres also the option of selling the handset and any other deals that come up in a year
it may only be £23 cheaper, but it is cheaper and provides more options
