Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

  • Afternoon all

Apologies for being MIA towards the end of last week. I ended up going to the pub afterwork on Wednesday and the week spiralled down from there. Myself and a couple of friends from work needed to drown our sorrows about the lack of bonus/payrise but really need to count ourselves lucky as some people were made redundant a couple of weeks back.

Anyway needless to say I was red last week probably not hughley (maybe by £10-15 but it all counts).

I have managed to keep up with going to the gym and trying to be good foodwise. I don't have much planned for this week so I am going for £30 to cover any incidentals.

I have updated pledges from the last thread let me know if anything is missing. As always thanks LC for passing the baton on.

    Have a good week everyone.

  • Afternoon pp and anyone else who pops along later.

Had a pretty good week last week with a 90p spend out of £10

So knowing i can manage so many NSD's i am going to go for the same this week £10 please for me. I have another quiet week with some planned spends from other budgets so hopefully low or no spends for me.

Sorry about the bonus/payrise situation pp, or lack of. With prices going up everywhere its a bummer when our wages don't go up too.

    Have a good week all.

Hey PP. I am in the same position as you. We are also waiting to hear about a pay rise and or bonus. I commute to London every day and my train has risen this year. Anything will be better than nothing but like you it would not surprise me if there were redundancies at my work. I have the same attitude as you -better to have a job. I am really lucky as i am one of the busiest in my department but with the cost of everything going on I could really do with a pay rise, however tiny.

    Have a good week.

  • Hi guys - every now and again I pledge a budget for the week, fail at it(!) and then don't come back for ages.

Am pledging £50 for the week incl petrol - have several plans for this week so will need to think about the best way to do this frugally

promise to come back at the end of the week and be honest :rotfl:

    Hi everyone

The surprise my friends had for me was a Mexican themed eveing! They did a huge feast (far far too much food for the 7 of us!!!), decorated her house with balloons and banners, and made me a birthday cake (see below)! It was awesome!

Am not going out anywhere today and just drove straight home this morning, so on track for true NSD :D

    Sun 22 Jan: NSD
Planned - Mon 23 Jan: AL, NSD for challenge, MOT from Car Fund budget,
4pts milk and 5 bananas from Food budget
Planned - Tue 24 Jan: AL, NSD

Planned - Thu 26 Jan: AL, NSD
Planned - Fri 27 Jan: AL, NSD

    Total so far: £0/£15.60

Hope everyone has a lovely day, I have the WHOLE week off, HURRAH! :T:j:beer:

Thanks pp for doing this week's thread - sorry to hear about the bonus/payrise situation both pp and EC12345 - we also got told months ago that there was no way we were getting them this year either. Also we didn't get the extra BH last year, and aren't getting it this year either...rubbish! Well done on keeping up with the gym etc though!
Fantastically low spend week EverTheOptimist, well done you! And lovely to see you dnms!

  • Hi everyone!! :j

I'm back again - last week was tough but it really showed me how much rubbish I would usually spend my money on!!

It's going to be quite a quiet week but the weekend may get a tad pricey but I'm going to pledge £25 again and fingers crossed, I manage to stick to it!!
