Ooo you have been busy, lemon. Tallgirl i am green with envy, nothing planted here. I have just ordered ahem 2 apple trees. Thanks to a lovely helpful gentleman (whispers, FB on another forum) I am now awaiting a Winter Gem and an Irish Peach, yep both apple trees. Will be re-arranging front garden soon as although i know where one is definately going, will have to have a think where the other is going to go.
So i now have rhubarb and apples to look forward to.:D Can i ask if anyone has the Creative Vegetable Gardening by Joy Larkcom. Is it any better than grow your own by Carol klein, or should i save my pennies, although the apple trees were reduced;)

Evening everyone,
The weather's been absolutely glorious here so I've spent a very productive day in the garden.
I've gone seed planting mad and planted peas, broad beans, beetroot, radishes, two different lots of spinach, two different varieties of spring onions - hedging my bets with the springers as I have planted them for the last two years and nothing has grown and I don't know what I'm doing wrong, so third time luckyI also planted two redcurrant bushes and a tayberry. I had a bit of luck with the redcurrant, I bought one bush and soaked the root ball in water for an hour and when I teased the roots out I actually ended up with 2 redcurrant bushes :T
Then I sowed some tender stemmed broccoli and tomato seeds in modules.
I just hope I haven't been too enthusiastic and stuck it all in the ground too early.
Hopefully it's going to be nice again tomorrow and I can do some more as it's back to work Wednesday
I need to retire :j0 -

Following supportive advice from this thread, I brought my pepper seeds in compost indoors. They were only planted a week ago, so nothing there.
I've also planted lettuce, tomatoes, peas and beetroot. Carrots & onions to follow, but couldn't get compost this weekend obviously. However with this frost/cold weather at nights, I'm worries this could affect germination? They're in a pvc greenhouse outside, & would've recieved a fair dosage of sunshine this morning.
Am I just being paranoid? I do this every year - plant seeds & then grumble to everyone for about 3 weeks that nothing has happened and the seeds were bad/compost must've been bad/frost got em/nothings working (delete as applicable...)
This came up first on google, they need to be this temp all the time to germinate productively. Once they are germinated they can take lower temps.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Well i've finally got a day off today and it's gonna be dry so should really get off my fat behind and get something done!
Will get my tomato and some more chillis potted on and need to plant out my Rocket tatties as they are going mental. PJavlins are still just starting to sprout so they can stay put for a while.
Will also try to dig over a bit more of the wasteland called the back garden and pinch some bricks from the pile sat in the front garden of the empty house next door to make dome borders with.
I'll report back later.0 -
I've been good on that front this year and only put in as many seeds as I need plus a couple extra to allow for failures.0
