Good idea about it reflecting the light, as it's north facing but also a very valid point about having to keep painting it. I think impatience will win as i have some plants i can move from the front garden and also bought some plants from the market yesterday. So if its a choice of painting or planting i think the planting will win:D

Yes, he does look rather happy, doesn't he?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

You make it sound like you have quite a big garden, with lots of space. Some pics would be nice.
It does sound like your peppers might be a little bit leggy if they've only got the first two (seed) leaves. I must confess I don't know how to fix this, other than planting them deeper when they're potted on. I know you can do this with chillies and tomatoes, so peppers should be ok.
Thanks. Will prbably be repotting the peppers next weekend. They haven't grown much over the last few days which is probably good. I'll make sure to bury the stem well when I transplant them and hopefully this will help solve the problem.
Managed to get some amrigold seeds yesterday so will be planting those in a few days and hoping to put these amongst the veg to try and attract bees / deter the nasty bugs!
I took a few pictures of our garden I took yesterday. It's not massvie but plenty bug enough for what we want. How do I upload them here. It asks for a link when I clikc insert image, do I have to upload them to another site first and then link to them? if so can you recommend the best site to use for this?0 -

This site should help you find the right variety. Select what you like from the list on the right hand side of the page, and it'll list the varieties with those characteristics.
I'd choose a variety, then phone the enquiry line to find out which rootstock would best suit the variety and your local conditions.
This nursery was recommended to me, and is where I bought my pear tree.
Don't discount the value of cookers - think pies and crumbles! You might want to look at a dual-purpose apple. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Thankyou, will take a look. The problem with cookers is that OH can't stand cooked apples but loves fresh. Hence the rhubarb for pies.Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away. – Hilary Cooper

Frost this morning so glad I have not got too much in the ground yet. Did put the potatoes in yesterday but put a big mount of earth on top so hope they are ok.
Seedlings in front of my patio door
African Marigold at the front and at the back lettuce (not sure if I need to thin it), 1 climbing French bean and some brushy sunflowers.
Tried to dig out a space for my blackcurrant bush in my old flower bed but the roots from an old tree behind us (now taken out but the roots must still be growing) made it impossible. I got some out and they were the size of an arm. Going to have to plant the blackcurrant and gooseberry in the veg patch despite the advice on here. I guess I can always go back to raised beds if I run out of veg space.
Also got one of my fruit trees in, planted my raspberry cane and blackberry and painted 1 more fence panel. Lots still to do but getting there.Save £12k in 25 No 49

This frost business worries me.
Following supportive advice from this thread, I brought my pepper seeds in compost indoors. They were only planted a week ago, so nothing there.
I've also planted lettuce, tomatoes, peas and beetroot. Carrots & onions to follow, but couldn't get compost this weekend obviously. However with this frost/cold weather at nights, I'm worries this could affect germination? They're in a pvc greenhouse outside, & would've recieved a fair dosage of sunshine this morning.
Am I just being paranoid? I do this every year - plant seeds & then grumble to everyone for about 3 weeks that nothing has happened and the seeds were bad/compost must've been bad/frost got em/nothings working (delete as applicable...)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
