Next year you could also turn your growbag on it's side so it's a bit deeper, or cut it in half and use each end stood upright, or use flower buckets with the growbag compost in. They like a bit of depth, do toms. ;)

I did mean to listen to that advice, honest! But then I had 6 tomatoes and two grow bags.... and I figured they were goners anyway...

Didn't think of tipping it to it's side. I wonder how I make it through the day sometimes, I'm not sure I'm much good at thinking at all :rotfl:

I have flowers on a couple of them, they just don't seem to be growing very much! Although after looking at the old picture they've gained quite a few leaves again. Poor things... they looked so healthy before I did that to them! :o

They're not growing because it's cold and rubbish. They'll pick up - fear not. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Yes, we wish England luck against the SA Barbarians North later today. :D

That would explain why DH seemed distant when I told him I'd invited DD, DS and his GF for a small BBQ this evening, none of which have the slightest interest in footie, along with me.
Guess we could take the small telly into the garden;)

I've been doing some weeding around the dead looking raspberry stick & there's something shooting about 2 inches away from it ~ could this be the start of something?! The batteries have gone in my camera so I'll try & take a pic tomorrow. Just a bit excited :o Obviously not expecting any fruit this year. Obviously

Fab pics, mbe & drea :T

MrBE, my toms are in a blowaway greenhouse, & are probably a little behind your outdoor ones, & are on a go slow like you wouldn't believe! I haven't a single flower yet...

Lost my cucumbers earlier this year.

My pepper plants haven't grown. One sprouted, stayed 1" high, then died...

Carrots seem to be doing ok though.

My beetroot are going to be planted out later on I think. Put them in pots to protect em from the dreaded slugs. Still not put them out yet, because the weather doesn't suit.

I need to know what to do with my pea plants. The first lot are almost ready to go out. Do I put a net up some canes? They don't grow as high as beans, do they?
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Depends what type they are. Mine grow to over 6' but normally 3' is about the average, so a bit of netting that high between some canes or some twigs will do but get them out and some slug pellets at the same time. Only put the pellets down sparsely so they drop about 6" apart is plenty.

    Oh. :(

Well there's something else I've done wrong then. :o

Ok stupid question number 367......I've got some Super Chilli F1 plants that are still in 3" pots and need planting on.

Due to not having anymore pots or planters left, I'm going to cut a tomorite growbag in half and just use that.

Does it really make any difference if I turn it inside out so the black is on the outside?

I really can't be faffed but if it's beneficial then I'll do it.

^ sweet pepper plants, they were doing well but today they seem to be drooping and the leaves feel very thin and have no structure, any ideas? :(

I think they may be getting too hot with the sun through the glass now.

Think all your plants look good though (even your skinny twig toms :D)

  • At the risk of upsetting Drea, my tomatoes, against the fence, are absolutely loaded with fruit - maybe because I haven`t been pulling any bits off - not even the bits I should have pulled off! I am growing them in pots in recycled, bought compost into which I stirred a quantity of Miracle-gro granules.

Pink Poppy, I can boast having two dead looking raspberry sticks - they were planted about two years ago and between them they have produced just three fruit. Got loads of strawberries ripening though so that makes up for the lack of raspberries this year.

One of my broad bean plants is being eaten by snails but they haven`t touched the actual beans, only the leaves. Dare I mention (can`t do whispers) that I haven`t had a single blackfly infest the beans since I moved here three years ago. At my old place I was constantly having to spray them with a solution of washing up liquid.

I have to grow everything in pots here because the garden is just a pile of stones - did much better on London clay so why did I moan about it so much when I was growing stuff in it.

Gooseberries, which I inherited when I moved, must have worn themselves out last year producing almost 12 lbs on just three plants - or maybe I just didn`t know I was supposed to prune them as this year I saw about five gooseberries and I think the birds must have taken them as they seem to have disappeared.
