I hate to break it to you all... but having finally had a meal with my own tatties, I can confirm they are the best tasting in the world! I'm fairly sure you should all just give up nowJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

I've lost 2 of my squash plants and 1 courgette. Oh well.0

When did your lawn shrink? I must have missed that post but I'm sure you had lawn next to the left hand side of your path.
You lavender will be happier in a pot with free draining soil sitting baking in the sun, well as and when we get any.
The lawn shrank when I made the no-dig bed last year, with the straw mulch. Do keep up.
My lavender's never been very happy in that border - there's something about it they just don't like. I might move it, but there's no space for it in a pot. Ground or nothing, I'm afraid! If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

That's careless. Where did you have them last?
My courgette's looking a bit rubbish. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
hey mrbadexample! your garden is looking great.. i'm new to growing a Purple Venezuelan chilli this year and is looking just a tad smaller than yours. also, ive got a Galina tomato as well and is flowering too. your comfrey could benefit from being divided and going elsewhere that has some sun as that i believe is one of my essential must-have plants at my lotti (have a whole bed dedicated to this).
you mentioned about mozzie larvae in the pond, do you think getting a carnivorous plant might be a bit troublesome as you might have to bring it indoors over winter?. also, the poorly lavender - maybe you've fed it too much. remember it's a mediterranean plant and it prefers poor, sandy soil. if it's old, then it's best to rip it out and start again...they take well from cuttings btw.
littlevics - i've noticed that some of my squash plants aren't looking great either. they took ok, but the outer leaves are a bit yellow looking. the weather's the culprit, methinks. anway, sown more today (indoor) and hopefully, these should be better if the sun stays sunny properly this season!0 -

Cheers! I grew one a couple of years ago. Pretty plant but the fruit are tiny. Mine's just starting to flower.dogstarheaven wrote: »also, ive got a Galina tomato as well and is flowering too.
Really tasty toms, Galina. Early too, and very productive. IIRC I got about 7 trusses from each of mine last year.dogstarheaven wrote: »your comfrey could benefit from being divided and going elsewhere that has some sun as that i believe is one of my essential must-have plants at my lotti (have a whole bed dedicated to this).
Noooo! The comfrey's still young - I only put it in last year. The reason it's in that little gap behind the shed and the greenhouse is because I can't use that space for anything else so it's unproductive. The comfrey seems happy enough, and I've no space in the rest of the garden for it. It won't be going anywhere.dogstarheaven wrote: »you mentioned about mozzie larvae in the pond, do you think getting a carnivorous plant might be a bit troublesome as you might have to bring it indoors over winter?.
The Aldrovanda is a water plant, so wouldn't need to come in over winter.dogstarheaven wrote: »also, the poorly lavender - maybe you've fed it too much. remember it's a mediterranean plant and it prefers poor, sandy soil. if it's old, then it's best to rip it out and start again...they take well from cuttings btw.
I've taken a couple of cuttings so that I won't lose it, but since I've never fed it it can't be that... I just think it wants to go somewhere else, but I've no space for it elsewhere. I might be able to find room somewhere by the pond when it's finished. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Some of my plants are helping themselves to their own dinner:
Looks like one unlucky harvestman - that trap's so small I'm surprised it managed to get more than a leg.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Do you have your chillis in a greenhouse or outside? Thats alot of pots!0

They are in a 6'x6' greenhouse with 4 tomato plants, plus quite a few other bits and pieces that are awaiting permanent homes somewhere. They don't take up too much space yet, but when they grow a bit it might be tricky. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Last night I sowed another 200 odd cucurbits - mainly winter squashes but about 30 cucumbers and courgettes. Mainly to plug gaps and give away to other people who have lost their squashes, cukes and courgettes. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
