thank you!! I shall make my own little tomato factory and post a picture.

In other news, I have a happy flowering quince, my straws have gone made and I have 6 peppers on the plant. Something's had a go at the courgettes and there are only 2 left now, so I need to do something to protect them a bit.

I'm starting to get to the stage where it's becoming traumatic again.

My mini pumpkins haven't germinated, I took the advice and put them on a radiator but now the weather is warmer heating is off so my question now is would it be worth buying some more? and how would I get them to germinate? No doubt this warm weather won't last :(

Some of my squash didn't germinate. I dug them out of the seed compost to have a look, and carefully peeled off the seed shell. Inside, the seed was trying to germinate, with a little growing tip.

I think the shells were so tough they couldn't break out, in spite of being soaked before planting. So, shells removed, I very gently replanted the bare seeds, and two out of the three are now putting up their first true leaves.
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?

Nobody really needs grass do they?

Yes! somewhere to sit with a glass of wine in the evening:D

Label them so you don't get confused :D:p;)

I've tried growing aubergines but I managed to pick 2 wet gray summers about 5 years apart and only got 2 per plant, so haven't bothered again. But they didn't get prime sun position so that probably didn't help.

How many toms did you pick up in the end?

This weekend turned into a community gardening type event, which basically meant I did gardening in my neighbours gardens. I've lent my tools, showed them how to use them (and post wanted adds on freecycle for their own) gave away loads of plants, got to test drive my new shredder :j it's wonderful :love:before I take it to use in mums garden next weekend, dug beds, taxi service to homebase for compost but did pass a plant sale sign on a small hall...........lots of home sown/cuttings for 10p each and between use we all but cleared them out but I have now converted 2 more households to gardening, and it's nicer to see looking out of my windows.

My cucumbers have stopped sulking since I moved the espalier cherry tree so it shades them from mid day sun, I'm sure I can see the runner beans growing! and the slugs have taken a liking to the dwarf french beans as I forgot to put garlic or pellets down, so I've sown some more.

Gooseberry question............Don't like them myself but hubby does and has accused me of neglecting it. I bought it from 99p store and planted it in March. It has about 8" of nice and healthy looking branches but some do cross the middle but I can see a nice bowl shape with the other branches.
Should I prune them out now or just leave them till the autumn?

I'd leave it until autumn unless Sambucus says different. :p

Sounds like you've had fun spreading the joy. :T I've got quite a bit done today, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for a full update as I'm cream-crackered.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Gooseberry - take out any that grow in the middle. It will grow them like crazy at the moment - just remove and pop into a pot of soil/compost and some may even shoot for more plants. Try and keep it as a bowl shape as much as you can - it will be worth it in the long run and they [should] have already flowered this year so next year is when you will get gooseberries.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Really enjoying this lovely weather been back out on the golf course my other Summer passion.

Been eating salad stuff from thevarden gosh is grows quickly at the moment. Noticed one of my potaoto plants looked a bit brown and that the stem had rotted. Next day the one next to it was the same. Must be potato blight never had it before as I always grew it in bags. Luckily the potatoes are ready to eat so will dig out the affected ones and start eating the others. They are first earlies and very nice.

Counted my fruit treas and bushes and we have 11 diffenrt kinds.

Also had my first pea absolutely lovely.

Put my tomato and cucumbers outside in pots, only want to grown 1 tomato (from the Dolmeo lot) as none of us like tomatoes. Never had success with cucumbers outside grew these from seeds so we shall see.

Love all the updates and photos.

Probably more likely to be potato blackleg, look it up and see if it's looks the same.

Morning, going to clean the kitchen then try to attach my tomato plants to canes and get them outside which will be a mission in itself as they're in the greenhouse with shelf poles half way up.

Bit worried that a couple of them have bent over so hoping the canes will help! Didn't realise they grew so tall!
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • I got loads off my raspberry bush last year but hardly any strawberries....thought that was a bit odd.....
But glad to see your experimenting with veggies! :-) This year I'm hoping I get bell peppers....fingers crossed
