    43 - I just got given 3 more by my chum. :D

Usually around 40-50 different varieties on the plots

 I really don't know how you cope. I'm at full stretch with my little bit. :p
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Well.........

I don't treat much with kid gloves. I find they usually respond better. It's only rare stuff that gets priority treatment.

The main things - mulch everything, make and use as much of your own compost as you can, and label everything. If it isn't labelled, chuck it in a corner somewhere and one day you might work out what it is.

Oh and share share share - the more you give away the more you get back.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I was given some "resting purple" heritage beans to grow, but I can't find any details about them anywhere. Do you know of anything of that, or close to that name?

Reading Purple? Climber, green leaves, purple stems and stringless beans which turn green on cooking.

I totally agree with this. I give quite a bit of stuff away, and am always picking up bits and pieces in return.

On a different note, I thought I'd share my favourite Larson cartoon, just because it makes me giggle.

I've not grown it so don't know, I will find out later :D I can't find a picture of the actual bean to match up to.

    MBE! I need your help!!

I'm going to pick up some tomato seedlings tomorrow - there are 'plenty' of 'a lot' of varieties. Got them off freecycle. I have questions:

    1. Shall I take them all?
    2. What should I look out for to see if they are healthy?
    3. Can I just shove them outside when I get home? I have no more room on windowsills and no polytunnel or greenhouse thingies
    4. what do you use the dangling string for?

I'm aiming for the cross-my-fingers-and-hope plan......

    1. Yes, unless you think that a few is enough and it would be fair and reasonable to let someone else have a punt.
    2. They look normal.
    3. In this weather, yes.
    4. I wrap the string around the stem of the plant to offer support instead of a cane. IMO it works better, as it's more flexible, you can't poke your eye out on the end of it, and the support it provides is better.
