Seriously, that is a heck of a list, I am beyond jealous!!
Can I ask if you made the raised beds yourself?? I'm thinking of having them next year (if this year's efforts at growing my own stuff amounts to anything that is) as I've discovered that I get about 4 or 5 metres of sun in my North facing back garden, instead of the 2 or 3 metres I thought I got :j
After I wrote that, it dawned on me I did have rather a lot for someone who doesn't have garden ground to grow in. :rotfl:
The raised beds are black plastic modular jobs. You can keep them separate or link them together.
The first ones I got were really cheap from somewhere that was selling them off end of line and the others I got for birthdays/Xmas/Mother's Day etc. They are only ever bought at least half price though, don't ever pay full price for them.
They are perfect for my 'in limbo' house situation right now as they are easy to dismantle and move and at least I can still grow stuff even although I don't have garden to do it in iyswim.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Enjoy your beer.

most veg will benefit from a slow release feed; this may help you for now as if i try to type a response to each veg it will become "iofjsdognjdklvn jijdsd9"

There probably are better to use tables but it seems a good starting point0 -
Well, quite pleased tonight as got some courgette, cucumber and squash sown today as well as my second attempt at sweet pea.
Also potted on another 8 marigolds, might get them all done by Christmas at this rate :rotfl:
Honestly, I'm sure I read here that others were having problems germinating marigolds so I sowed the WHOLE packet, it's quite possible they've all come up! Don't know where I'll put 100 marigolds, not sure I even like them that much :rotfl:0 -

Thanks gazza, that's what I was hoping to do but my beds are not that massive so 100 might be optimistic. Would you need a lot or will random ones here and there do?
I guess I can always give a few away or pop them in pots to brighten up the garden!0 -
alias, your raised beds sound good, what size are they?? I'd only be after a small size I think as the garden isn't huge.
I watched Gardener's World on catch-up yesterday & I'm now worried that I've sown my seeds too deepCarol Klein was giving a demonstration on how to sow seeds successfully & it was nothing like how I did mine. Is it worth me gently shaking a bit of compost off my pots or just leave them as they are?? I did find it difficult to judge how much soil was going in after the seeds so may have been a bit heavy-handed
The first lot of seeds have been in about a week now.

The rule of thumb with seeds is the smaller they are the closer to the surface they need to be. What seeds were you sowing?
One of my students sowed some peppers a few months back [under the supervision of one of the TAs], and nothing came up for ages. Then, the level of the compost just started rising and rising and popped off the top - he had sown them about 2 inches down, nearly on the bottom of the pot - and they had just germinated and pushed the soil up and out.
The main issue is very very fine seed, that need the light to germinate - so if it's those, I'd get a half seed tray - fill with compost and finely empty the pot that you have sown your seeds in over the top - so that the seeds can get the light. Otherwise I'd just leave them be.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I have things sprouting on my windowsill that I've labelled sp and mg. I know that sp are the sweet peas but have NO IDEA what mg is. I also have more flowers on the pepper plant.
Bit worried about my new quince - some of the leaves have turned white/silver - is this normal??0 -
The seeds I'm worried about are the marigolds & nasturtiums, but I've also just sown some pepper seeds so I'm wondering about them too
Actually, maybe the sweet peas as well
LV, could mg be marigolds??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
