I have to say I wasn't impressed with the T&M vegetable plant offers ~ not a lot as far as I could see.
I have 3 flowers on my old strawberry plant as well ~ I'm wanting to move it though as I planted it in completely the wrong place about 3 years ago & haven't got around to moving it yetI also have 3 runners (that have rooted) so I'm going to dig them out as well.
Does anyone know what size pot strawberries should be in?? I found an old wooden hexaganol planter I'd forgotten about & wondered whether to put the 3 runners in there in a triangle formation.
I'm very [STRIKE]jealous[/STRIKE] impressed with how everyone is doing on here :T'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

I think it's probably about the right time actually. Form what I remember of growing them before they do grow pretty rapidly to start but slow down a little after the first set of true leaves have appeared.
I'll need to put them outside once they are a reasonable size but as long as they are protected I guess thsi will be OK?
I also planted 10-12 cucumer seeds and all have germinated, if they all survive and produce cucumbers, I'm going to be overrun, it's only me who eats them as the OH doesn't like them!! Still I'm sure I can find people who will enjoy them!0 -

A friend of mine's just been given a couple of cucumbers for me - a crystal lemon and a telegraph, I think she said. That'll be plenty for me. Quite looking forward to the crystal lemon. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I've removed the slabs from the edge of the pond:
They weren't full slabs, fortunately:
so I managed to slide them out from under the turf, which obviously dropped an inch or so as a result. Exploratory probing with my fork would suggest that there are plenty more up there. :wall:
Still, at least the problem slabs are gone, and I can't see the others. I suppose that's good. :undecidedIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Any idea what these are, particularly the one on the left?
I've got an awful lot of it, for some reason. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Looks like a weed to me sorry. Glad you got the slab out, nasty stuff to have in your lawn.
All my cucumbers came up lovely and strong but I had some in little compost type pots and now they have keeled over and died. Mind you I only need 2 so not too worried.
The marigolds looking good but would love to get them into the gArden now. The sweetpea seeds have been total rubbish planted 9 seeds 4 came up and now two have died. They were free so it doesn't really matter will have something else in that pot.
Peas are surviving with fleece at night but. The ones I sowed along side them have done nothing yet so done some more inside. I never seem to have luck with the, outside.
My newly seeded lawn looks very good all that rain have helped. Will get some photos up tomorrow.Save £12k in 25 No 49

I finally planted some Marigolds, parsnips, lettuce and the OH did some Sunflowers.I also weeded about a square foot of my border which is a start.
My Competion Carrots are coming through nicely and I have been singing and talking to them but I'm not sure if it's helping any? I'm gunna do another 2 tubs of Carrots at the end of next week.I was going to plant some peas but something is telling me to wait so I'm waitingDebt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Wow, this thread has been really busy. Just spent a couple of hours catching up - love everything I'm learning, now to try and remember it all!
mbe, your parents garden is amazing, so so beautiful, I do love flowers and would like more myself but I think that's probably something for a few years time.
All this talk of pests is scaring me a little. My broad beans have tiny little black spots. I can't seem to rub them off so not sure if it's something buggy or just broad beans??
I'm struggling to find time to do things at the moment, potted on some marigolds, 8 out of probably about 80. 5 of my 9 tomatoes have been potted on, having done some more reading, I'm not sure I buried them enough, will try harder for the next ones but will they still be ok?
My 4 pepper seeds have finally germinated :j, they're very very slow growing though, only true leaves coming on one so far, is this normal? No sign of the chillis, sweet peas or peas so think I'll give up on those now and start again and possibly start the peas outside. Defintely going for more than two this time!
Big plans for the weekend, really hoping to get the garden more or less finished, my beds are almost ready, need a bit more filling of compost but was pleasantly surprised how much soil we had from the garden digging that was able to go back in.
Seeing what you're all sowing is very useful too, going to get my cucumber, courgettes and squash going. Bit worried about space for the squash but will cross that bridge when I come to it..0 -
I've measured the wooden planter & it's 13.5" from one side to the other ~ can I fit 3 strawberry runners in it, will there be enough space?? I'm not expecting great things this year, probably no fruit on them, but I'm hoping they get established at least.
The parent plant has been nibbled on the leaves ~ I can't see anything obvious so I'll dig that up & plant it in it's own pot away from the planter, don't want to transfer anything to the babies.
Nothing happening with the seeds I've sown but it's still early days...
I've asked my family what they would like me to (hopefully) grow & I have requests for potatoes (did a Keith Lemon impersonation in my head there), chillis & more strawberries. Any personal recommendations on potatoes & chillis to try would be great, thank youThe potatoes will need to go in sacks/potato bag things, not in the ground.
