Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

Does that happen with a lot of indoor plants or is it a particular type you have been growing? Or is it your seedlings? Sounds unpleasant
We repotted them all with compost we bought from B&M but didn't notice that it must of been infested with the flies eggs, once potted up and compost wet a couple of weeks later their was loads of them.It got to a point where we were splatting about 8 everyday.
We changed the compost but never washed the roots of the plants and there was still bits of infected compost still on the roots. So of course the cycle just started up again.
The if the plants survive till the end of summer then I will give them a bare root wash and fresh sterilised compost and see how that goes.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Hey all, been a while...good to read/catch up with everyones gardening endeavours thus far. Liking your pond MrB. Interesting shape, i look forward to seeing it progress.
We have a new pup. Ruddy massive puppy actually. Like Digby the dog...ever growing....has a penchant for digging up my garden. Trying to block her entrance to the veg growing 2/3rds of our small garden. Especially important because today i had to put down slug pellets on my raised beds as the durned slugs been at my beetroot seedlings and radish seedlings.
Had a disappointing week last week. Managed to bump off a load of seedlings, accidentally of course.
On the plus side, bought a cheap placky polytunnel off fleabay so have more covered growing room outdoors. Hoping this will be the year i have gluts, especially of tomatoes
P.s. quite possibly have excess seed potatoes, already chitting, to give away. Anyone local or passing by north staffs in the next week or so is welcome to them....think i have 3 lots...vivaldi, rocket and charlotte. Pm me if interested, would prefer a regular on here to have them before i put them on freegle or summat.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Can't wait to see your pond when it's done MBE. My Dad had two ponds in his garden, one with fish and one was a wildlife pond. They were both fantastic, though I'm not at all tempted in my wee patch.
Cheers. I think a visit to see the old fella is in order. With a bit of luck, I can help him repair the leak in his fishpond, and nick some of his pond plants, a handful of snails and a big bucket of water to get mine started. Means I've really got to crack on and get mine dug, lined and filled though. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Hello stranger - it sure has!
Congratulations on the new pup. What breed?
Sadly (or happily!), I think I've got enough spuds in, but thanks. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Hi Katholicos.
Thanks for the offer of spuds but I was hunting for homes for the extra ones I had too a couple of weeks back.
My garden is split into two by a length of temp Heras fencing so the dogs have their own bit to wreck and don't trample/dig/pee on etc. my hard work!0 -
MrBE - been up to your old tricks again?

@MrBad (you aren't really, are you?)
New pup is breed known as nortybordercollievariety. Proper sheepdoggy sort. Totally adoggable, erm, i mean, adorable.
I just received my real seeds order, sown my seeds in a mini propogator, got up from the kitchen table and she promptly knocked the whole lot in the air. Now the seeds are jumbled up and they are all tomatoes so its not like i can identify each variety by seed. Bless the boistereous little so and so.
My old dog has the right idea, stay well out of her way if any remaining shred of sanity is to be kept.
No probs about spuds, will offload them to someone
Edited to add: your parents garden is like something out of homes and gardens magazine. Totally awe inspiring. Must have put a lot of hard graft in over the years, to get a garden looking so very beautiful.
@Aria, i know what you mean. There is only so much room to grow, only so much soil or compost to grow in. Just read about MrBadex taking soil to the tip and wished i lived near enough for me to have scrounged some of him. Am experimenting with using coir this year as part of the growing medium in my raised beds and pots, just ordered another 5 x 5 kg blocks. Being incapacitated somewhat i cant lug bags of compost anymore so this is an option i am giving a go.
Edited to add: totally forgot to respond bout dogs. Have scraps of wood and garden canes partitioning the bigger part of the garden but i need a more permanent structure to fence her in. Might think about screening of some sort, but she could push through that in no time i guess!
Happy growing everryone!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

after failed attempts at keeping my two border collies off my veg patch I have ended up building a whole fortress around it...just battens and wire netting about 5 foot high..quite usefull tho as gives nice walls to grow stuff up!0

Haven't disposed of anything really worth having yet. I've managed to keep the good stuff, at least until now.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
