there will be no eating of gold fish on this thread thank you, but it's nice to see you're feeling better;)0 -
Not a lot doing here today thanks to the rain, but yesterday I managed to screw some planters to the neighbours fence (I have the bad side) and plant some jasmine and the purple spikey plants (cordoline?) in them. The jasmine was reduced to £1 and is probably the house variety but I thought I'd risk it.
I also planted up 4 containers, which look quite nice sitting on the back door step.
(Forgot the tomatoes in the car but promise to re pot them tomorrow even if it's raining.
Can any one advise me how to lay / level sleepers for raised beds? Do I need to do a concrete base to level them? (Hope not!).
Oh mbe you must be so proud of your mum & dads garden, it's beautiful.
How many fish do they have and are you not tempted to acquire a couple for your pond?
Oh and back to work tomorrow so the sun is bound to come out to play.....
Ps a tattie is not a weed so well done!0 -
Thanks for the composting information, annie, I now know all there is to know about browns & greens :T
Sowed my first ever seeds yesterday :j Mint, basil, nasturtiums, sweet peas & french marigolds ~ only on a very small scale initially, just to see how they do. I still have rosemary to sow & I'd like to get a lot more stuff to try this week.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Very carefully; they're heavy! You don't need a concrete base - just get them as level as you can. It doesn't have to be perfect - pretty close will do.cheekyweegit wrote: »How many fish do they have and are you not tempted to acquire a couple for your pond?
Too many for the pond because they keep breeding, and absolutely not! I'm not feeding the damn things! Plus, they would eat frogspawn. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
It's chucking it down big style here just now. Just home from work via Morrisons (who incidentally have a mini garden centre with quite reasonable priced plants, in particular a little magnolia for £3.05 and two of the mini pale green conifer things which go in planters for £1.25 each
.
Just as well I never planted any seeds over the last day or so, they be down South by now with the amount of rain we've had today. Bottom of the road is flooded, but on the plus side apparently I have a red car (couldn't see the real colour for the dirt / grit from the snow the other week.
Here's hoping the sun is being saved for the weekend since I'm back to work.0 -

I had a breakfast in Morrisons today, and I had a look round the garden centre bit too. Except I was thinking "they've got all this cheaper in Poundland". :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Had my first fatalities, one of the cucumbers keeled over, it was on a sunny windowsill and well watered so not sure what happened there, the other one is doing fine in the same conditions! So another sown there.
Sweet corn germination rate was dire, three out of sixteen seeds have sprouted, in the airing cupboard, had a dig in some other pots and the seeds are hard and brown so I've started again with some seeds on wet kitchen towel to see if they sprout before I plant them.
Hope the weather brightens up soon, need to get some of these plants outside before my house becomes a jungle!0 -

I sow 6 seeds of two types most years and always have 1 to 4 suicidal cucumbers every year, always have done.
I assume it gets a bit too hot on the south facing window sill, but I never remember to shade them. So some years I have 2 plants others 5....now that does make for a lot of cucumbers for 2 people! I've even ended up putting them out front with a sign 'free please take'
Have decided my courgette seed is past it as I've had 1 of 6 germinate and it's been 3 weeks. First time for years I'm going to have to buy some.
Complained to ebay seller that I hadn't received my camera cable as I know you're all dying to see my small (tatty, now I've seen other peoples gardens) garden, with and without fence and indoor salad growingHas promised to send me another one.
