Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

I'm fashionably late to this party.
Just started growing this year. Potatoes are out, tomatoes in their little cells, some peas have come up and I've moved 2 bulk bags (0.75m3) this weekend.0 -

MBE - what's your composting solution? I've got a teeny tiny space (about the size of a dustbin) that I can use.
Must admit, I'm not overly fussed about having one, but I kinda feel like I should.0 -

Yes, you should have one, it's absolutely essential.Mine are made up of old pallets / scaffold boards. You should be able to source some free wood (skips / freecycle etc). Build it to fit your space. Put organic stuff in it. Job done. Alternatively, of course, you can buy one of the dalek-style ones.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

We believe you, MBE
I'm thinking I should have a compost heap as well, Little Vics ~ will have to do some investigations, although I'll probably go for a ready-made container thingy rather than a home-made heap. Would quite like to get a water butt as well.
I'm hoping to sow some seeds this weekend'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Well, I did do a bit once it stopped raining.I've done a run to the tip, which resulted in another free recycling bin. I now have 8 tubs of sifted soil, planted up with parsnips, carrots, turnips, leeks, spring onions and beetroot. Haven't dug much more out of the pond though. Hopefully it'll be dry tomorrow so I can crack on.

Silly question - if you put stuff to compost on the top of the pile/dalek, how do you get it out of the bottom?0

Daleks have a door in the bottom. If you build one yourself, you get whatever you remembered to incorporate into the design. The front of mine come off with just a couple of screws. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
so all the good stuff just falls to the bottom and you scoop it out? I honestly have no idea. Knowing my luck I'll put potato peelings in, and next year get a good crop of spuds.0
