Sadly you are right. Thank you, I will try not to take it to heart (although I strongly dislike being called stupid by people, so I retain the right to take that to heart :rotfl:)

Interesting to see how the anti-amber necklace posters haven't taken their time to see exactly how the necklaces are constructed. They are made with tiny amber beads, each one individually knotted, so they can't all fall off and become huge choking hazards. The beads are small enough to pass through if they were ingested.
I also find it interesting how the anti posters suggest the necklaces are a danger if your baby is unsupervised. Well, I for one most certainly do not leave my baby unsupervised during wake time. Ever. Now that would be stupid.0 -

Actually, I did. And I took time to look at a few of the sites that sell them. (The 'something is better than nothing' comment on one of them was priceless. Akin to saying, 'we know it doesn't work but.') They are individually knotted. That does not mean they can't be a strangulation hazard, nor does it mean that they can't be a choking hazard.
And being small enough to pass through doesn't stop a baby choking on it. It does in fact mean that it can easily be inhaled.
When people say their babies are never alone when awake, they're forgetting the time the baby is falling asleep/has just woken up/is alone for a minute while you go to the loo/get the door/stir a pan. I dont' think it's likely that a baby will choke in that time and I'm not scare mongering, but I think this is a very unsound practice with clear scientific evidence that it's not doing anything to help the baby and with a risk of serious harm.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

In YOUR opinion!! Seriously do you people think we are liars......as well as being stupid child abusers!!!! You have never tried them so how on earth can you say that it doesn't work????? Oh sorry the scientists/doctors say so they it MUST be correct!
The placebo effect wont work on babies so that is obviously not the answer. I'm not sure if it the fact that we use amber or a necklace or both that you are so anti what we are doing? You keep going on about a choking hazard but you haven't even seen a necklace IRL. My son has NEVER touched his necklace, he isn't aware that it is there, it is not too short that it will strangle him and not too long that he can get his fist through it and get it stuck. If he were to discover it and started yanking at it, despite it being sturdy, then yes I probably would remove it but for now I am happy that he is in no danger and the fact that it works....yes it really does, well I am happy.
I know it is extremely difficult to understand how, along with homeopathy actually works but surely millions of people can't be wrong? I really do not understand why the anti alternative medicine people are being so flipping aggressive over this! You don't believe in it then fair doos but why be so rude to the people who do?"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -

Millions of people can certainly be wrong.
And I don't think people are being aggressive, more like the other way round tbh. If you say about someone you think is being rude, it might be better than targeting everyone who doesn't agree with you.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Oh dear. Please have a read of my posts. I've been nothing but respectful. It's NOT my opinion. It's FACT. The material is not volatile in these temperatures. There is nothing leaching out of it.
Just because millions of people use homeopathy doesn't mean it MUST be right. There is no evidence to support homeopathy either. That said, I have no problem with people using it if that's what they want to do. Their choice.
I also have no problem with people choosing to put beads round their babies' necks. I think there are associated risks that are not insubstantial but I also think that mothers who care enough to spend money on things they have no proof of are pretty desperate to help their babies and I get that. Been there done that.
I also believe that every mother here wants what is best for their baby, however we choose to do that and I take extreme offence to the accusation that I'm calling women child abusers, being aggressive and rude.
You need to calm down. I DISAGREE. I think there are associated risks. THAT'S ALL.
An apology would be appropriate, please.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

My child abuse comment was aimed at a different poster who suggested that if someone posted with a different scenario that we would call them stupid and then ring social services.
And in reply to that, with all 'differences' aside. Lets say a poster comes on here saying, for an extreme example, that their baby doesn't sleep, pretty much at all. And they are desperate. A parent/grandparent suggested gin in the bottle, and they were so desperate they tried it. It worked so they did it every night. If they came here asking for further advice, would it really be helpful to be rude and unkind and say how stupid the poster is and then call social services (obviously without personal details that's not possible but let's pretend...)
That would just alienate the poster and they would disappear. Perhaps continuing to put spirits in their child's bottle.
Surely, the most responsible way to try and educate them is to do so with kindness and understanding?NSDs 7/20

If you genuinely believe that some substance is leaching out of these necklaces then I am astounded that you are happy for a defenceless baby to wear one.0 -

That's what I was trying to do.
I have outlined several potential risks as well as pointing out the lack of proven benefits. That's all I've tried to do, respectfully and calmly.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
