Amber necklace for teething baby

I think they are suppose to be tight around the neck to prevent chewing, i have come across this website which seems to have a nice selection, also each bead is individually knotted to prevent choking.

Every necklace sold should have individually knotted beads, they shouldn't be tight but should not be lose enough for baby to get a fist inside. However. That said, I always got slightly larger sized necklaces for mine, as I would 'trap' the necklace into the 1st popper on the babygro. Then as they got older they just ignored them, my son tells me off now if I forget his necklace after a bath.
I can HIGHLY recommend this site:

Job done."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I thought that they were for babies to chew on as well....I was horrified that mums were giving their babies beads to chew, an obvious choking hazard etc etc.
So basically, babies wear a necklace or bracelet made with amber beads and it magically stops teething problems......how does that work then?
Sorry, but..........:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
There are links in the site I posted above, forgive me if I don't take time to explain it to someone who replies quite so rudely, no body has suggested it does so magically. Just the same as one doesn't say 'so you put the liquid in your baby's mouth, they swallow it and magically they're in less pain?' obviously there's more to it
I have said I do not know if it works, it seemed to work with my eldest son and seems to work with my youngest. Just because something isn't a medicine that comes in a bottle or a blister pack it does not mean that it is a load of tosh. Neither of my sons have had nor needed any Other remedies since wearing the necklaces. Coincidence or not, I am not going to take it off to see if my son starts experiencing pain or rashes etc.
Sometimes I feel quite frustrated at people rudeness when confronted with something different or unusual. Manners cost very little and to openly laugh at someone's choices is rather upsetting if I'm honest.
Forgive me if I'm overreacting (as I know it wasn't aimed at me, but the necklaces - which are made of Baltic amber by the way if you would like to look it up) but I was offended by it.NSDs 7/20

Unfortunately the factory burnt down a year or so ago so they are just about impossible to get hold of just now.barbiedoll wrote: »I thought that they were for babies to chew on as well....I was horrified that mums were giving their babies beads to chew, an obvious choking hazard etc etc.

*rolls eyes* I use an amber teething necklace for my wee one and I wish I had know about it with DD. I don't give a flying toss how it works but for me (and man many others) it does. Personally I would rather give my baby something that was natural, as long as it helped, rather than relying on calpol day in day out. Amber has been used for centuries as a natural healer not just for teething but other ailments.
OP in answer to your question, like i said I have found it a godsend. my DS has 8 teeth (at 8 months) and we have had a fairly easy time of it with him. I took it off when the first 8 came through as he had a break from teething but his back teeth are now coming through so after a couple of days of being very grumpy and copious dribbling, we have put it back on and what a difference! I have also used A & P's which are great but like i said they are like gold dust at the mo anbesol is also very good.
Like someone else said, go to a proper website as there are lots of fakes out there, I think it is the baltic amber you need to look for. Good luck and I hope it helps you too"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
I think it's something to do with amber (bearing in mind it was tree sap once-upon-a-time) realising oils on contact with skin. It's this oil that is believed to have pain-relieving properties.
I've read lots of good things about these, worth giving it a go I'd say."Live long, laugh often, love much"

Both of mine wore amber necklaces, my 3yr old still does although she already has all her teeth, but she loves it and doesnt want to take it off (she's going through a pretty princess stage).
Both of them never had any problems teething at one point ds had 4 teeth breaking through and it didnt bother him at all.
In my experience they work and its worth a try. But be warned that you will get some funny looks from people who think baby can choke on the necklace. I once got ridiculed at a baby swimming class many yrs ago when amber teething necklaces were rarely seen. The teacher asked me if I was a hippy? as my son wore this necklace, I explained what it was for, she gave me a funny look and told the other parents in a loud voice that she would never put a necklace on a baby as its a choking hazard. Needless to say I never went back.
I have never heard of a case that a baby died from wearing an amber necklace.
I got mine from Germany where nearly all off the babies and toddlers wear them.:hello:0 -
