Glad it works for you ;) Just to point out, the majority of people on this thread who DISAGREE that these necklaces etc can ACTUALLY have any REAL effect on pain have been polite, to the point and extremely factual in their answers. I believe there to have been one or two comments that were maybe a tad unnecessary in their mocking tone and i agree that was uncalled for.

I do believe that the people who seem to have been more aggressive with their responses have in fact been the people who are "pro-amber" ..... I imagine that this is possibly linked to the fact that it is a very emotive issue - parenting and peoples choices regarding it that is. Naturally people do not like to feel criticised and will become very defensive - especially when it comes to their children!
Well written, where as I would have liked to have had a decent discussion about how this could have worked, apparently even questioning it is not allowed.

I don't recall anyone saying you couldn't question it. We just objected to the mocking and derisive tone of certain (but certainly not all) posters

I know. I was posting info for anyone that might be interested.

And in reply to that, with all 'differences' aside. Lets say a poster comes on here saying, for an extreme example, that their baby doesn't sleep, pretty much at all. And they are desperate. A parent/grandparent suggested gin in the bottle, and they were so desperate they tried it. It worked so they did it every night. If they came here asking for further advice, would it really be helpful to be rude and unkind and say how stupid the poster is and then call social services (obviously without personal details that's not possible but let's pretend...)
That would just alienate the poster and they would disappear. Perhaps continuing to put spirits in their child's bottle.
Surely, the most responsible way to try and educate them is to do so with kindness and understanding?

As a very tired parent, please would you educate me as to the correct amount of gin to use. Should it be mixed with milk, or should the baby take it neat?

I would guess that it would be quicker to attach a teat straight onto the spirit bottle :D

These days, it would have to be an extreme situation... However, for the sake of the exercise, I believe alcohol is an antiseptic and a sedative whereas my preferred modern medicine, Baby Anbesol, is an anaesthetic and an antiseptic. Presumably, the antiseptic properties kill any infection and the sedative effect is better than no anaesthetic as you are less affected by pain when asleep. An old chap told me, when my elder child was teething, that they used to rub rum on to the gums using a fingertip. Tbh, it doesn't sound so very different from teething gel considering the decades...

Oh dear. Your memory really isn't up to much, is it? Other month? Try less than a fortnight.

I actually wanted to know if there was anything to help my teething son sleep while I was at my very elderly and rather poorly grandmother's house so that SHE wasn't disturbed during what was potentially my last visit to her.

As it happened, anbesol worked a treat (along with some lovely long walks to tire him out) and we had a lovely time. And I didn't have to resort to putting baileys in his milk either. :p
