Oohhh, I am so out of place on this board but I can't bear Lidl :( it's my biggest OS shame! Can't comment on Aldi as there isn't one near me. It's nothing to do with snobbery as I have eagerly gone there a few times, desperate for all the fab bargains I hear about, but the one near me is just a horrid, horrid place. I never find a single thing there that I want to buy. It's a really unpleasant environment and seems to be just full of jumbled up cr*p. And no, it's not that I haven't given it a chance or looked properly - every time I've been it's been with my grandmother who is the slowest person on earth and has to walk up and down EVERY aisle and examine everything in detail - so I've spent plenty of time looking!

A friend when I was at uni used to say Aldi and Lidl were like 'a third world country'....actually the one near me is pretty similar to some of the worse supermarkets I've been to in Bulgaria. Sorry!! I'm NOT a snob and I so want to love it like everyone else does.......as I said, it's my biggest hidden shame and makes me feel like a fraud every time I visit this board! (I'm only half joking...)

Personally I tell everyone when I get a bargain I just can't keep my mouth shut.

Ditto! I proudly told most of the playground the other day that my pushchair came from the tip when we were discussing expensive prams...
I told them all about my new coat that was £6, the jacket I just bought in the charity shop, the furniture I got off freecycle...
If people know we're poor they tend to give us stuff ;) (ie one mum gave me a bag of clothes for my daughter the other day, I was delighted!). I like to think of myself as practising 'Anti-snobbery'

I take my Aldi bags into Waitrose every week :)

Though I admit to being a total Iceland snob... wouldn't be caught in there :o love Lidl and Aldi though...

That is so funny that they feel they have to hide where they go. I go to Lidl weekly(no Aldi nearby) and quite often see a very glamorous lady in a posh BMW sports car who wears Louboutins those very expensive shoes with red soles. That's obviously how she affords her treats. Wish we had an Aldi nearer as their anti ageing cream is supposed to be one of the best and I could certainly do with that!!!!!:rotfl:

our local Aldi pays £8.50 an hour. Everywhere else round here is minimum wage.
I shop there when I can its 15 miles away so only go about twice a year. but i do a huge shop and stock up with loads.
my friend once took me to her local Aldi many years ago when it first opened to have a look around. She picked up a bottle of wine and said in a loud voice ;"well its not what we'd call wine is it?". How snotty of her! but now times have changed and she has to buy her stuff there.

I take my Lidl bags everywhere :)

I have a very dear friend who's a total snob about shopping & I like nothing better than arriving at the checkout with him in Sainsburys or Waitrose, whipping my Lidl bags out & watching him squirm :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

my SIL wont set foot in Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Tesco or Morrisons - she will condescend to a Sainsbury shop - but mostly shops in M&S. sadly, she thinks that Aldi and Lidl must have substandard food - and when I tell her that its equal or better in quality than most supermarkets, she doesnt believe me! but then I do call her Princess Ann! (behind her back that is).

btw - did an Aldi shop today - and the car park was full of very nice, fairly new cars!

Have you tried substituting an aldi/lidl product for something she has at yours eg put an an item form aldi in a branded pack/wrapper and see if she likes it.

re the cars yes ive noticed that, every store i worked in majority of the cars were fairly newish.

I love Aldi too but as we have a Tesco extra just 2 mins up the road, I tend to go there about 7.30 and snaffle all the reduced items. I got 3 bagfuls of stuff tonight for less than £5 lol.

I will admit that I love the Tesco value teabags. 27p for 80. I go through gallons of tea a day and these are really nice.

Honestly some people need to get over themselves!!!

We don't have a Lidl, the nearest one is in Luton

I love Aldi though and ours is very clean and well stocked, the staff are lovely and very helpful, which is more than can be said for the staff in Asda, or Tesco here.

I have noticed that it is getting a lot busier lately too and there are more and more posh cars in the car park.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
