I very much like this idea and have sort of given it a go, but I don't think I am doing it quite right.

I have put all my coupons and months food money into one purse. I now frequent Aldi as my main shop, I then look on here and supermarket websites for their bargains and choose my menu's according to whats on offer.
Where I differ is the difference I save on the offers, is then put into a savings account and in three weeks I already have £39.00.

So I started my second purse today putting £10 so now here is the question, if I am using this purse for offers, how do you accumulate money to move to your third purse (savings) or am I going to be just as successful doing it my way.
I know you must be fed up explaining it, but I am determined to get saving, as I have booked a cruise for sept for a big old birthday coming up and need lots of spending money.
I now don't buy anything food or otherwise until I have checked where is the cheapest, this site is becoming my secret guilty pleasure!!!
Ok, a few questions to establish how you're doing things if I may?
Are you putting £10 aside, buying bargains, then buying back at the bargain price and putting the savings away?
Or, are you buying the bargains then putting the saving away without buying off yourself?
The reason I ask is that by buying back off yourself you replenish the 2nd purse with the money spent on bargains and relieve your grocery budget of the cost of buying bulk items.

    For example:
I buy £40 worth of beans using my 2nd purse then over the coming months gradually buy them back off myself using my grocery budget, spreading the cost.

However, if I bought them using the 2nd purse and did not buy them back off myself as I used them my 2nd purse would only ever have £10 maximum in it.

You could buy the beans then put the savings to one side, but the point of the purse is to relief yourself of having to make big purchases from your grocery budget.

Oh and don't worry about me having to explain again, the more I explain the clearer it becomes to me also :)
You are more than welcome to buy them back off yourself at the same price paid, so your 2nd purse would never be in profit, and move the savings straight to the 3rd purse :)
Its amazing how fast the purse grows. I started in January so am on my 2nd month ie I have put in £20 now of "real" money. I have reinvested the profit in purchases and just done a stock take and have now got £50.67 of stock at cost price, so once I have bought back the stock that will be a whole lot more. In some cases this may take some time - I have 15 tins of baked beans left for example BUT it just goes to show how quickly it takes off. My husband says my stockpile puts costco to shame (hardly!!). I have been around tonight with sticky labels to label the price which I will buy it back - it may look weird to an onlooker BUT I found that somebody in the house had taken a tin of beans - horror - without telling me so I'm hoping the price label might illicit some sort of thought - or at least I'll hopefully notice it when I see the label on the counter!!! I now have a whole £1.14 of cash left in my purse so may need to wait until I've sold something else before I can do some more investing.
:rotfl:beans:T You're doing awesome and I had to laugh about the beans

  • Always happy - you made me laugh about the beans being taken! I've 'hidden' my stocks around the house so that I can bring them out as necessary cos otherwise like you, my family would just take them (how dare they ;)!) and I won't know to pay the 2nd purse.

    Hello :hello:

I just saw in Martin's weekly email that there is a voucher in tomorrow's Sun newspaper for £6 off £40 spend in Mr M for use between tomorrow and Sunday inclusive. Apparently you can use more than one, so if you're spending £80, put it through in 2x£40 transactions and use a voucher for each. That's one for 2nd Purse and one for groceries :D

I won't be spending that much on second purse again before the end of the week ;) but I'm sure I can make up my grocery shop to get the discount

So I'll be getting one but I hope it helps others, too. :T

Dont forget to use it with coupons from the voucher thread to get the maximum from your budget :T
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. :)

Does anyone know if there are any offers in M0rrisons that make that voucher worthwhile? I was in yesterday but nothing really jumped out at me.

Everso sorry everyone I neglected to update the offers last night as I was winning money on bingo. I came out £110 up :) that's not including the cashback, so all in all pretty pleased with myself for that one.

I did update Mr S last night and removed any out of date offers... you'll see the third sheet now with any gone off offers :) Absolutely gutted I missed the doggy loo roll offer though that would have been a tidy prize as my housemate buys it all the time boo. I shall try to update the with anymore today for you all :) Please feel free to update yourselves as well.

Oh my, I've just worked out that at my current rate of washing, if I buy 20 litres of fab conditioner, it'll last me 10 years! I do one wash a week, 20 litres is about 560 washes. Do I buy or is that a bit mad?

Nah, not at all mad. Only con I can think of is whether the conditioner will separate somehow when stored ??
