My OH is the most pessimistic person I have ever met, in the past he has always poured scorn on my ideas with the words "nothing will change"
Anyway I was expecting the same with this so I did my usual, carried on without saying a word, last week he commented on all the shopping I was doing :rotfl: I pointed out that that maybe but my groceries were coming in under budget for the first time in 23 years and I had a bit stashed for bargains that we use................he shut up!!!! Last night on one of his usual rants of woa is me, he did point out that at least now I had the food spending under control. OK at this point I have passed out on the floor

I am not suggesting "007" antics but my mother, who I mentioned in an earlier post is doing all this "under the radar" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: My Dad is worse than my hubby in the scorn stakes. I made the mistake of asking her in front of him how the 2nd purse was going, I was so disappointed when she told me it wasn't and had fallen by the wayside, I missed the eye movements at this point. Two days later I had to laugh, no it hadn't gone by the wayside but was thriving, she had £28 in her 2nd purse and didn't want my dad to know, as he would want the money and start telling her what to do with it. She wants to save her 3rd purse for treats when they visit family :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Moral of the tale, keep with us, what seems impossible can become possible :D

:rotfl:and :T !! I love the fact your mum has £28 already :rotfl:! I haven't broached the idea with DH yet.......he has been away all month. Is back on Thursday, I wonder if he will notice all the stock before I even have to say anything :rotfl:it has taken over one whole cupboard in kids room (3 shelves full) and i actually spring cleaned the kitchen yesterday.......purely because I was on a mission to find more space for goodies :rotfl::rotfl: I've been meaning to do it for 2 years so thanks to this challenge it finally got my backside in gear :p

    Morning all

I had £13.80 in my 2nd purse this morning but I've just been to MrC and bought Penguin biscuits 100% free packs and they are on BOGOF so £1.85 got me 36 Penguins - bought 6 packs paid £5.55, also bought Rocky biscs on BOGOF so £1.19 for 12 [packs of 6] Great for pack ups for kids

So my 2nd purse is lighter but my shop is bigger and the reward will be higher lol

I've now paid my second purse for my purchases: £16.05 :T

Went to Mr M last night and got a bit carried away picking up everything on offer that I use....Had a mini LBM before the till though and realised I had too much to cover with my £40 purse money so had to take a moment and really think what was or wasn't a bargain, and which were the best. It's a learning curve, for sure! There were some very good offers though (IMO, naive as that may be ;)).

I now have £110 worth of stock and £22 in my purse after putting in £80 in total, so £53 'profit' in total (excuse the rounding ;))

I'm pretty sure my Nana used to stockpile stuff, I seem to remember there being a huge pile of bog roll underneath the stairs. If our ancestors did it, then why shouldn't we :p I think we need to re-train our OHs to think more long-term than convenience :)
Saying that, I don't live with my OH currently and have no idea how he's going to take my stockpiles when we do move in together in 18 months time. He's already telling me that hearing about finances is really boring grrr. He is happy that he always has a supply for beans on toast though :)
I really need to update the spreadsheet with this weeks offers, I didn't manage to last night as was sorting out fleabay items. I'll do it after I've finished writing up a document which needs to be complete tomorrow :)

    Hi Helen,
Last week Felix was 2 for £5, normally £3 each in Mr M... so looks like they've bumped the price up there :(
I'm just going through the spreadsheet now with your offers. Thanks for jotting the offers down, I really appreciate it as I don't have one nearby.
The SMs make me mad when they do things like the felix grrr.

  • I had a great moment yesterday! :j

DD unexpectedly got a lift to and from Asda (too far for me to get to) and earlier in the day I had noticed that they had diet pepsi on offer at 8 cans for £2.00.

When she asked if there was anything I wanted I was able to say to look for the diet pepsi "and just take the cash from the Second Purse"! :T

Normally I would be scrabbling around for cash, or having to transfer money from one accout to another, in order to pay for an unexpected bargain opportunity.

BTW I know it would be far more bargainitious to stop drinking the wretched stuff but that and many cups of tea are my only
    vices :rotfl:

I cannot TELL you how great it felt to actually have some cash in the house, ready and waiting to be used when needed :D

I've enjoyed reading the posts about our OH's reactions to the 2nd Purse and stockpiling.
My OH was only told last year about the 2nd Purse,(when I told everyone on the GC, and my daughters) his reaction was unexpected. He thought I just LIKED shopping, he said he's often wondered how I always have money and could buy what I liked whenever I liked. He listened as I explained how it worked , and to my surprise he said thats brilliant! For some reason I expected him to moan about it, he can be a bit moany at times. My OH's first wife never paid any bills and went through money like water, ran up debt, and never paid the mortgage, he said he has never had to worry about me in that way so he doesn't mind what I do as long as I'm happy :)

I've had a wide range of reactions to the 2nd Purse, anything negative usually from men,
My best friends husband is like Basil Faulty (in mannerisms). He does all the shopping, and only buy's things when he runs out. He flies into a rage, if when putting the shopping away and he finds he already has something LOL. I went shopping with him a few times and he used to leap back in shock when he saw the price of things, much to the amusement of other shoppers. And yes you've guessed it by the time the end of the month came my poor friend was always needing something. My stock bailed them out many a time.

I too go through a lot of Loo Rolls (I do B&B, guests food comes from a different budget), and I can NEVER run out of those LOL. I only buy them when I see them at the 'right' price, no matter how many I've got hence my 191 stockpile of them.

Has anyone noticed the rise in price of Brasso? We use a lot of it, I had to pay treble the price for 1 Litre recently, so when I found a wee haberdashers with old stock, I bought the lot. My OH cleans the brass and only lets me buy one tin at a time. I've kept that stash well hidden LOL.

No buying today for me, although I did spend the day yesterday wondering how to make this work with DS's chocolate buttons. He goes through 9 packs in a week (well I buy 9-he's allowed one a day depending on his behavior. So for now Im only paying the difference to 2nd purse, so it dawned on me-I only buy the 3 for £1 but they are 40p each,so that makes 7p profit x 9 += 63p. per batch. Which over the course of a year is £32.76:eek:

I need to go to the registrar today (appointment at 12:45) to get DD registered,so Ill do some more coupon hunting when I get back:) Hope you're all having a lovely day.
