As Helen says, there are no rules we're just all following a similar path with one goal... to have a purse with a float in for bulk buying, and another purse filling up with our savings :D oh and reduced grocery bills

  • Can't quite get my head around buying stuff back at full price, still seems too much to take out of my grocery budget (perhaps I'll have DFW312's lightbulb moment eventually :)). Anyway - splitting the difference between what I bought goods for and their full price seems to be working OK.

I do my second purse slightly different. For example a while ago Cheeri0s were BOGOF so I bought 4 boxes with my second purse money. I only paid for 2 boxes out of grocery challenge money (as 2 boxes were free) but paid my second purse for the 4 boxes at full price when they were used.

Hi Kerry, have you a Chinese SM anywhere close to you? You'll find the takeaway containers there quite cheap along with loads of bargain foods. I went to a big one in Birmingham's Chinatown with my DS and DDIL last year and wished I had a shopping trolley with me! :rotfl:
I've been reading all your posts and wish I could join in but DH doesn't like stocking up too much "in case something happens to us then someone else will have it". I guess it takes all sorts eh!
You are all doing fantastic, keep up the good work.
    Hugs to all.

  • Got some kitchen towels, they are a bit small, and @ £1.99 for 4 not that good a bargain, but they will do until I get some more.
Got a few rolls of cling film too.
And a whole load of other stuff, passata, tomato puree,(I've just tried them in Bolognese, cant taste any difference from what I usually buy ) Got tomato and brown sauce (to try them).
Also long life bread rolls & bagels. Got 3 of their thick bleach @ 99p ( its just the same as Domestos but costs much less), Brillo pads 79p. 6 Bottles of their diet Lemonade @ 19p ( I got a bottle on my last shop and my OH said it was lovely he DOESNT often remark on anything but I agree its lovely).
I spent £26 and used the £5 off voucher and got loads of stuff. Some I've tried before some new to me. You definitely get a lot more for your money in A!ldi, which really makes you think, if they can sell groceries at these prices, then why can't the rest of them? Robbing swines.

I will only take around £10 from the 2nd Purse as only the kitchen towels bleach, passata, & tomato puree were for restocking. The balance is from my 1st Purse

I wont be buying anything for about a week and then only, perishables, milk etc; fruit and veg.
Got enough butter for about 3 months.

I've been growing a sourdough culture for bread making. I've got my baking stone in the bottom of the oven, you can make pittas , nan's etc on it, I will keep you posted on how I get on, if anyone is interested I will post the recipes. I've been making bread for a good while now and Its really exciting, and great fun.
    1st Purse £114.19 Monthly GB
    2nd Purse ££100

    Fridge Freezer £300 3rd Purse /£290.94
  • DD2 took a carton of orange juice from my stock yesterday, so that's 75p (16p profit) back to my 2nd purse, giving me a total of £4.50 in there at the moment :).

I'm hoping to get an Asd4 shop done tonight, so will probably pick up a few extras from my 2nd purse.

You could join in, in a small way, so when you see a bogof put the second ones full price into your second purse :-) this could be done with something as simple as bogof custard tin, you'd still keep thm in the kitchen but the saving goes to one side :-) we'd be happy to have you, your hubby shouldn't be so morbid :-p if something happens to us then think how happy a charity would be when they see our shops ;-)

I think I will have to drop out of the challenge, but will be following along with you all. Was talking to DH about it and he felt we need to cut costs rather than syphon off money into a separate purse. So I will be shopping for the bargains and stocking up where I can, I bought 2 x 4 packs of Branston Beans in Asda today but was in a hurry and should have bought more so will pop in there again tomorrow.

Is there an update on where is best for branded washing powder at the minute? I know last week when I had no money there were offers in different places but not sure if anything is still on offer.

Did you start a new sour dough starter - after your OH threw out yours - I think I have the right poster here? How do you start one please? I have a Pizza stone - never used it - it has to be baked first - doesn't it?

Well my second purse is going well :o its in minus figures :D couldnt resist getting a large persil washing liquid, from MrS 54 washes for £5, there was only 1 left so of course it would have been rude of me to leave it there on its own, only do about 5 or 6 washes a week so will put £1 a week in my second purse till Its all used, which means I will have about £10 back off it, the rest of my stock is building up nicely but will have to restrain myself now till I buy something off myself or put my next £10 in.

Have joined the grocery challenge for Feb, set it at £200 for the month, Im hoping over the next few months to get that down a bit :)

Went to SM and bought some more 'stock'.. My DH was so funny because when he opened the door and helped me in with the bags, he lifted the bags and asked which bags were for the shop!!! I smiled :T then over a cuppa he talked through the second purse system and thinks its a good idea!!

I went to some charity shops today as I have lost 2 stone 4 lbs and all my clothes are massive so I bought 5 tops for about £13.. You sure have to watch charity shop prices, but I was pleased with what I bought..

I am going to do a price check on my stock tomorrow and use a marker to put 'buy back' prices on the tins.

    Love this!!! xxx
