  • Just had a thought - maybe I should have used the money from council tax and water rates as cash this month instead of paying off credit card? Have started my shop MunniMart in the garage and have put everything on the table there and got £25 for purse 2 so will buy some stuff today when I go out. But how do I now pay for things from MunniMart when I won't have the money til next month as surplus is on cc (well tbh there is no surplus as have gone over budget already!!!!!:eek:

Please help as I have confused myself (again):(

EDIT: Meant to say that my aim is £135 for an Actifry - can you add me to the list please Kerri? Thank you:T

I was waiting till OH gets paid on Tuesday but I received my pay cheque today. this is enough for a couple of weeks purse 1 and 2 money so I am going to make a start today:j So this time next week I will either be :T or:(

I was explaining it to OH who said so everytime I have a bar of chocolate (bulk bought in Lid*) I have to pay 50p. Yep:rotfl:

I am not good with spreadsheets so think I will use a notebook and pay my purse 2 every 2 weeks or month (not decided which yet)

I have quite alot in my shop aready from mr T dtd and various other offers but aim to go to lid* today and stock up on cheese.

I have never done a budget before so am excited but also a bit

I've just done an inventory of the offer items I have in the cupboard under the stairs and made a note of the prices I need to pay myself back into the 2nd purse and it comes to £68.30.

So on Wednesday I'll put £10 in a seperate purse and start from then!

  • Hi BB and welcome:hello:

Never thought about the chocolate - I bulk buy in B&M £1.89 for 6 or 7 bars depending what you buy, so will need to see how much they work out individually and put them to my list, so thanks for that reminder. Think this is going to take a bit of getting used to but loving the idea of having the profits for us and not the SMs:T

Polkadot - can I ask - where did you get those wallets from as I like the idea of them being together on ring binder things
I got the pencil bags here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260454510512?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and the hinged rings here:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290600167816?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Im going out to MrS later today-did a shopping list for the weekly shop which came to £45 and DH says is enough fridge/freezer stuff for 2 weeks. Will look for some sleepsuits for DD to bring it to £60 so that I can use the £9 off £60 spend that DH brought home for me yesterday. The clothes will come from some money DH has given me from his bonus to get the children some new clothes.DS2 has lods that I kept from DS1 and were given by friends, but as DS1 is the first to get to his "age group" he hasn't much that fits.DD also lacks because we weren't expecting her-we thought DS2 would be our last so I freecycled his stuff as soon as he grew out of it.:j.Im also going to Lido's for dishwasher tabs, olive oil and some other bits.

I like that idea, especially when Im away from home but DH needs something.Ive added the spreadsheets from here to my budget tracker created by Eagerlearner and its shared with DH on google docs-so he can check the spreadsheet before "going to town":D

I think I might go this route also-slower start but less pressure. I'll pay full price where I can-but Ill also give myself permission to pay only the difference.

I have made my own "purse" of sorts using pencil bags for my most important budget bits:
    • DS1=£30/pcm for school bits-rather like buses, one month they wont be asking for any money at all and then closer to the end of term there is loads being asked for...what doesnt get used is just left in the purse for later.Whatevers left is split between school uniforms and his own savings account.
    • DS2=£60/pcm for nappies and formula-this is effectively his child benefit money so its all taken out and put in the purse,he's on the +1 formula and is slowly weaning off it,and he uses two jumbo boxes of nappies which I usually get on the 2 for £20, so whatever is left is moved to savings.
    • DD=£60/pcm=Same as DS2 but she's breastfeeding (YAY!Finally one of my children co operates:o so £40 of "her money" goes into savings to pay for clothes, parties and gifts.
    • Petrol=£40, whatever isnt used is rolled over and we normally collect enough to pay for petrol to go to Yorkshire every now and then to vist DH's grandad.
    • Groceries=£60 per week.Whats leftover carries over or goes into the sealed pot.
    • I recently bought two new ones for 2nd and 3rd purse.

  • Please remember the 2nd Purse system is designed to take pressure off you and your 1st Purse, and as its your purse you make the rules that are right for you.
A thousand mile walk starts with the first step.

You've all already walked a mile, you just don't realise it :) It's not an easy concept to get to grips with until you actually start doing it, but once you do, it will change the way you shop forever.
It also makes you realise just how much Mr S is making off you esp; if you need something and have to pay full price.
I started off with £10 because money was tight. It took a year to build up a good stock.
As I said before only buy the things you use all the time and start with the basics.

TEA, COFFEE, SUGAR etc; B1G1F 3 for 2 etc or Half price

Try and buy at least 2-3 different items each month.

A good selection of all the things you buy will serve you much better than a cupboard full of toilet rolls.

I love the spreadsheet, but you will still need your wee notepad when your shopping, or your phone.
Write a list of all the things you use and separate them into categories.
It's highly unlikely you will get everything from your beverage section in 1 shop, you might get Tea Bags. Toilet Rolls, and Pasta one shop. But as the months pass and you see all the items crossed off, you know you have a lot of what you need in stock and that means ... SECURITY. There's no feeling like it.

I will never forget as I child I was always hungry, that is until my step -mother gave me the job of shopping for everything for the family. I learned fast and didn't waste a penny, I was given £1 a day to feed a family of 6, I used to save a little each day and use it to buy something we normally didn't get. I will never forget the first thing I bought, a bottle of 'Orange Squash' we all stood and stared at it, and as there was only one glass we had to take it in turns to drink from it.

    You haven't failed.

We are all here for the same thing Annie to help and support each other. This website has helped me in so many ways you wouldn't believe. Your post made me cry. I mentioned to Kerri in a PM that I was worried that me posting here would maybe make some folk feel as though they had failed. I want to teach you all I know about surviving. And cry with you when we fall off the wagon and rejoice with you when we succeed.

What I love about this thread is that we have budgeters of all levels.
What we all have in common is we want to get out heads around making our money work for US......in whatever way suits us best and we can manage, without piling on the pressure!!

Already too much of that for most of us ;)

    So just take baby steps!

Thanks polkadot - made a note of the items and will buy them next week - they are a really good idea and a fab way of keeping everything together and small enough to go in my bag

Mothership - I completely agree with you regards buying small and often, I'll be using the 2nd purse to build up on offers for the bathroom and tinned goods, I'll be paying it back at the offer price but I'll still be making money, I can't afford at the moment to buy back at full price but hopefully there will come a day when that can happen, I tried this once before [when you 1st mentioned it on the GC thread] but didn't do it properly and soon fell by the wayside :[ This time is different - I feel differently about it and I'm determined to give it a go

MunniMuncha [love the name BTW] thanks hun
