Hi. I'm really trying hard to save extra money each month to pay off my debts and would like to give this a go. Would be great if you could give me some tips. I have three young girls, and feel like no matter how hard I try therre is never any money left over at the end of the month, so I am going to try really hard.
Hi and welcome to the thread jules!!
Its a bit quiet here at the moment, but the folks here are very helpful.
My tips would be to try and get stuff for your stores that you will use often and quickly, that way your money (even if its just teeny dribs and drabs) will build up more quickly.
Maybe think of something you and your little girls get through lots of......cereal? juice? choccie buttons?
When you spot an offer (Sainsburys own choccie buttons are much loved by my DGS and cost 3 for £1 making them 33p) when I open a packet and let him have a few, I pay second purse £1 for a pack (because I am useless at maths at like to round things up)
So......
If I had £10 in SP and spend £1.00 I now have £9 in SP.
DGS eats a packet and I pay my SP £1.00.....SP now back to £10.
That evening Nanny (me) yomps a packet, I owe SP another £1.00 but that can go straight into 3rd Purse, because SP already has it's full £10.
Of course YOU decide what to charge for stock from YOUR store.
So I could just charge myself the 33p I paid.
Or I could just add a wee bit of profit and charge 50p.
Or if I am completely broke and desperate for choccie, I dont need to pay at all........cant do that in Sainsbods!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If you repeat the process with the things YOU use often, it is amazing how quickly you pay back SP and get profit into 3rd purse.
You dont acquire EXTRA money, you re-circulate it in a way that means more stays in YOUR purse and not the SM tills.:T
Hope I dont sound like I am trying to teach granny to sucks eggsbut some of us (me!!) took a while to get to grips with the concept and sometimes it is good to get back to basics.

Hellooooooooooooooo
Well I havent posted on here in ages  where have I been? I rarely leave the house
Welcome Annie99 and jules217  enjoy your shops, you will soon get into the swing of things and it will become second nature
Fozziebear has done a stirling job on the advice front, totally agree with her, start with stuff you use all the time as this is exactly where the SM are getting most of your money. In our house its curry sauce and lasagne sauce, we go through a jar a week and I will buy it whether its £1.41 a jar or on 2 for £2, bulk buying them when they were on 99p a jar recently (ummm 20 jars of each :rotfl:) has put 82p a week back into MY purse and I should have enough in the cupboard to last until they are back on offer again at one of the SM, meaning i'll never pay the fat cat owners full price again
Do still question your purchases though, its very easy to run round the SM going 'coke 2 for £3!, biccies on £1 a pack!!' and grabbing them off the shelves before getting home and going 'hmm but we dont really like those biscuits, and im on a diet so have given up coke for the forseeable future '. I went through a stage of buying lots of things I take time to use, currently have 5 bottles of fabric softner in my cupboard . . . I do 2 washes a week
.
Check out the grabbit board for deals on shopping items (also check deals on amazon as they bulk sell alot of items too and can come in cheaper than the SM) and check the discounts / money off coupons board, lots of free money off coupons for your shopdont leave home without them . . . I dont :rotfl:
Finally, enjoy the game, as thats what it is reallyhow much money can you nick back off the SM's?

Hi everyone and especially the newbies. Some sterline advice from Fozzie and jakes-mum. Please feel free to ask any questions, as we were all new once.
I currently 'owe' my 2nd purse for purchases from this week, but I've busted my grocery budget already, so will pay back at the end of June
Need to do a stock take as I'm sure I've noticed some other bits have gone walkies. I'm going to be getting some industrial style racking for the garage as DH is a scout leader and you wouldn't believe the amount of [STRIKE]carp[/STRIKE] stuff that needs storing for that  Hoping that there will be some room for non- perishables too, like washing liquid and dishwasher salt etc. for CAZCO. Spent my first SP3 money today.... On a treat for me ( 2x Yankee Candles, 40% off ) and a treat for DS ( Star Wars Lego - he's Lego obsessed!!)
I feel guilty for spending the money :rotfl: does anyone else ever feel like that?
SP2 is owed £39 already, with two weeks to go until payday, and as my limit is currently £20, I'm in profit already
Can I also ask, has anyone used A1di or L1dl own brand laundry powder before? If so, what's it like?

Ive never used the laundry powder but their dishwasher tablets are very good, so prob worth a trySPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -
Hi
Thanks for the useful advice everyone. I am hoping I get the hang of this. As a single mum with three young girls I am hoping to save as much as a can.
I have used Lidl Non Bio washing powder , and it is really good. The fabric softeners areexcellent value too.
I even buy my nappies in Lidl, as you can buy 72 nappies for about £5.70. They are far better than any of the supermarket own brand ones. Their wet wipes are superb too.0 -
I have been keeping track of SP and 3rd Purse but havent had the money to settle up, but since its nearly the end of the month, I have finally managed to catch up.
1) Decided to cut my SP max float to £30
2) Bought from the 3rd Purse - Shalimar perfume, new maxi dress, 4 new pillows for a total spend of £71
3) I had been keeping a list of what I used from Sallys Stores and it was a grand total of £47.50 so I have put that in 3rd Purse.
So SP is now at £30 and 3rd Purse went from £120 down to £49 and is now back up to £96.50 :T0 -
well done fozziebeartoo - your third purse has been very hard working!! I settle immediately but not sure if this is the best way to go as when I have cash I buy things (for stock obviously) so my 2nd purse goes from £30 (my level) down to nil and then anything going in gets eaten up, if that makes sense. Admittedly I have quite a bit of stock........ it becomes a bit obsessive because actually I could live off my shop for quite a while but then it wouldn't be growing!!!I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

I am the same.......just cannot resist adding to my stash!!
My pile of 25p Colgate from Sainsbobs keeps growing, I already had enough toothpaste for a year or more before I started buying that :rotfl:
I have resisted adding more dishwasher tablets but only because I just cant fit anymore on my shelves......:o
And since my fave deod has been on offer for £1 in Sainsbods, I must have enough for at least a year.......closer to 20
