Oh dear, my 2nd purse is £31 overdrawn :o can I charge myself interest on the loan do you think :rotfl: on the plus side I have 2 drawers of my freezer stuffed full of meat :D which includes 21 chicken portions, 3 whole chickens, 1 beef joint, 1 lamb joint and 33 sausages  plus I have 16 beef burgers turning up on friday from DR and ive already played tetris just to get what ive got in the freezer :rotfl: no more supermarkets allowed for jakes mum!!

Went to Mr A today (hence all the chicken :o) and bought my 6 chickens for £21, mum gets 1, 3 are frozen for sunday dinners and the other 2 have been hacked into 8 chicken portions, 4 chicken legs and enough scraps for a curry :j The only reason I already had 13 chicken portions was that I had none so had to get the pepacked ones from Mr C at 3 packs for £10 :( £1 a portion they work out at   they work out 50p each if I cut em myself off a whole chicken  was not impressed :( anyway at least I wont need meat for a good 3 weeks, wonder if I can stay away from the supermarkets for the next 3 weekends and just get my fresh stuff from Mr C  worth a try

Wow, you're very good portioning up a chicken. Don't think I could ever do that, it's just the thought of cutting it all up. I have major wobbles whenever we have a whole roast chicken, definitely couldn't cut a raw one up :o

As an aside - my 3rd purse is earmarked for a KitchenAid but I was in JLewi$ yesterday and they had the KMix (Kenwood) - does anyone have one of these and would they recommend? They are around £100 cheaper than the KitchenAid and look quite funky! TIA

DH cuts them up for me :rotfl: hes a dab hand at it now, I then attack the carcass for scraps for a curry, I much prefer cutting up a cooked one though as its much easier to strip and I have a real thing about the posibility of poisoning myself from touching the raw chicken :rotfl: we get through ALOT of hygenic wipes and hand wash in this house :rotfl:

    I can imagine :rotfl:

2 x !am$ dog food 3kg bags purchased today. They are on offer in Sainsbugs for 2 for £15 rather than £10.45 each. It's large purchases like this that really stuff up my GC budget so at least pooch is sorted for a little while :D

Welcome!! For me I do it virtually. I started off having physical cash in two purses - one for the grocery challenge and one for my second purse. I found it frustrating when I paid the 2nd purse if I didn't have the right money, so kept owing it or it owed GC purse iyswim?

I now do it virtually - have a spreadsheet for all my expenses anyway - and it makes life a lot simpler.

Feel free to ask any questions - you are sure to have questions as we all did when we started out :D Hope you have space to store your goodies. Oh and what will you call your shop ;)

Ooooooooo RO, you've come to join us on the second purse :D, I know its just cos you wondered where all su debt free'ers had disappeared to :rotfl:.

Im a cash gal, I have my 1st purse which is grocery budget, 2nd purse which is for my bargains, then 3rd purse for my 'profit'.
There are lots of ways to run it but I have a spreadsheet with columns for: everything i've bought, How many I bought, the cost, how much im charging myself & how many I have left in stock.

Underneath I have a square that I add up money owed to 2nd purse as I use it (because I cant always be bothered to sort out paying myself every day) and a square to add up 3rd purse profit. Im very impatient so I pay original price to second purse and what ive saved through multibuying straight to 3rd purse :o.

I did find when I started that every time I had a couple of quid in 2nd purse I had to spend it on stock, but now I have a good stock in my cupboards, the system is really working :T. I also dont charge RRP when I buy things back from myself, I buy back at what I would be willing to pay, so some items I make a good profit (like DS's cereal) as I would pay RRP if I had too, some I make a small profit on because I would only buy it if I saw it at a certain price or less, and a couple of items got bought back at a loss  My shop is so great :D

I've come to the conclusion I'm a gadget freak:D We went to the Go*d Fo*d Show last weekend and I was tempted by the Easi*o Yogh*rt System. You just buy the sachets of whatever type you fancy and then mix them up an pop them in the flask thingy (sorry not very technical:o) made some to day and it tastes wonderful. Probably not the cheapest way to make yoghurt but I think the benefit outweigh any negatives (Sachets in my opinion are a little expensive), but the taste is outstanding. I can see me getting alot of use out of this new toy:D

Second purse has recovered from the pounding it took last month and also the 3rd purse is filling up again (No more broken doors or taps I hope).

No big shop for me this week because I need to cut back a bit and the cupboards are pretty full. Will have to get some Milk and Cereal though ........and maybe order some more of those sachets:D

I too have the easiyo elizabunny and love it - really like the taste of the yogurt but I'm the first to admit that I could buy it cheaper at the sm. The fact that my son will eat it sways it.
Settled up the purses today and added £36.20 tp to the 3rd purse. I usually settle up as I go but have been feeling the pinch this month so finally got around to it. Nearly £100 in there now so really pleased - plus I still have loooooaaads of stock. Feeling all warm and content with my shop.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!
  • Right. I think I've got the hang of it. So I have my weekly food shop budget, and a second purse budget that I use for multibuys and bargains. Plan is to start with £70 a week for groceries (family of 5, plus one big dog and two cats) plus a tenner for my second purse (a week for the first few months -cupboards and freezer are bare so it will replenish and stockpile LOL) Will see how it goes. Thanks for the tips!
