Second Purse Challenge 2012

Oh dear, just showed DH the meat slicer on Lakeland and hes announced 'we're having one of those, buy it!' every time I think hes getting better he proves he hasnt learnt a darned thing about saving and budgetting!
Hes currently sat next to me justifying the cost 'think how much money we would save on ham and cheese!!' :rotfl: :rotfl:
Used my meat slicer last night for the first time and was amazed how much more meat I got from it instead of using the conventional method of a knife!! Seriously, the gammon cost £12 and worked out that at about £3 for 4 slices of finest ham (as the gammon was equivalent, and this was the better quality than SM stuff) would have cost around £30 so am well pleased with that. :j
Was impressed with meat slicer too. Came apart really easily for washing, but a word of warning, OH cut his finger on the blade :eek:and he only touched it, so please be very careful. It also has a lifetime guarantee so you can't get better than that!!;)
Am by Lakeland today and have decided to get the vacuum sealer with some more of my 3P money (£54) so will let you all know what that is like. My 3P is now dwindling so have decided to start saving up for a panny as have now decided to make my own bread!:j
Have a good day everyone:DWhen you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying!:rotfl:
June GC - £352.04/£350
SP challenge 3P £171.28:j:j:j0 -
Just did a quick sort out of SP while DGD is napping and the house is quiet!
I paid £4 to SP for a YS/whoopsied turkey breast joint I got for £3 and paid £2.00 for a fabric conditioner I paid 25p for - so £6 into 3rd purse - and it now has £97!! :j
I simply cant believe how well Motherships Second Purse
works!! Give that lady a medal!!

Hello everyone
I've just been reading this thread with great interest (honestly jakes-mum and kerri I'm not really stalking you but you mentioned this thread on the sealed pot one) and it seems like a really good idea. I'm not nearly organised enough to run 3 purses but I've taken on board the idea of buying in bulk so I'm going to do that when I have any spare money but just use the stuff as normal. So I've already bought a 10kg bag of cat food online for roughly half the supermarket price so I'm chuffed, and didn't have to carry it home!
I have 2 questions - where on earth do you store your stock when you have a lot? and what is DR meat?
Thanks
Rx
ps - what is YS/whoopsied? I'm sure it's obvious but I'm a bit slow on the uptakeThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hellooooooooo Rosy
Haha we have converted you
DR meat is Donald Russell Meat (the best meat we have ever tasted!) you buy it online on their website and it gets delivered to your door, there are lots of codes for free delivery and you can order months in advance if you want, think mothership has about 10 orders lined up . They always have special offers on for bulk buying (which suits us lot) and im sure someone on here was running a referral list? so whoever was next on the list refers you and you get your first free delivery code (though we currently have a 20% off and fre del code) and they get a free gift.
I have a few cupboards that have been cleared out for my bulk buys, but some have gone all out and bought shelving
YS/Whoopsied = yellow stickered supermarket items, the stuff they've chucked in the reduced section or reduced down for quick sale. . . we like those stickers :rotfl:SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -

19 deliveries up until October 23rd, they are all small orders , like 16 burgers, 2 pheasant s , 8 mince, Pot roast, a wide variety of their range, these wee deliveries keep my freezer topped up, all bought when on special with free delivery. This is the only way I can afford it, but be warned once you've tasted it there's no going back.
I was baking last night , coconut macaroons, bread (I'm getting a dab hand with the bread , thanks to the hairy bikers lol), scones, and I put that Makro ham on to bake (for tonights dinner with new totties and cabbage,) then had to put it in a pan of water to draw some of the salt out, but the juices are being made into a pot of Lentil soup for lunch tomorrow.
I'm determined to keep as much as I can in my purses. Although It may seem we are frugal on this thread, its not downgrading, its making every penny you have work for you and improving your lifestyle at the same time. You can use the money to clear off bills or for luxuries. I spent a whole year spending my 3rd Purse profits on DR Meat (hence the advance orders,) the best thing I ever did , it just freed up more money. My wee ISA is at £5,850 since joining MSE. All that money used to go to Mr SM. I'm waiting until I reach 10K then I'll tell my husband about it LOL.

Just been gazing happily at my stock.......... not many people I'd dare say that to!! One thing this challenge has brought home to me is how quickly certain items in our house get turned around - I bought 8 bags of dececco pasta when it was on offer in sains recently and I have 1 left!!! (hope it goes back on offer soon), butter we use 1 every 2/3 days!!!! no wonder my clothes are tight!! and don't even get me started on toilet rolls........... it really focuses the mind doesn't it, but at least I now have a better idea of the things that I need to bulk buy when I see themI'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0
