Well, well, I showed my DH the 2nd purse link and he sat and read through the whole thing, even looking at the spreadsheet etc.. He thinks its a good idea.Wonders will never cease, he usually rolls his eyes or ignores me when I suggest this or that to do with shopping etc, but he is on board with this.:T
Now a few more questions, how do I log on and just read this thread? Im going on the shopping forum and have to look for 2 purse challenge, can I just have a link to it.. bookmark?? Not good at this sort of thing.

Also do you all mind if I bug you and ask questions as I think if may take me a while to get my head around this..

Im starting on Thursday shall I draw out my 400 pounds for the months budget, plus10 for 2nd purse, or do you think i should draw out 100 a week? will I be less tempted or manage it better? Hmmm I guess what I need help with is suggestions how you do your shopping, monthly or weekly.. meal plans etc.. Im a right muddle me!!

Awww, I've just been browsing the Donald Russell website longing for the day that I have a freezer larger than the size of a brick to put things in :(:( Unfortunately our home isn't big enough for a chest freezer, which I would love. I may look into a taller fridge/freezer in the future though (our is 3/4 size, so we have a freezer about 1/3 the size of a 'normal' one)

It's a good excuse to generally have fresh rather than frozen meats though. My aim is to start buying from local butchers though, rather than supermarkets.

I have now taken first items from my stockpile - toliet rolls :p Haven't 'paid' yet as need to find out what price I usually pay first. Think I may work on 'Credit' and pay second purse on a weekly basis ;)

Hi Annie, Glad to hear your OH is on board, mine thinks I'm nuts!

If you go to the top of the page you'll see a link that says "thread tools" click on that link then click "subscribe to thread". Then when you log in each time go to "quick links" then "subscribed threads" and you'll see this thread in there :)

When I am paid on Thursday I will withdraw my weekly allowance of £20 for food (stops me overspending and I have all the toiletries etc I need for now) then I will put £10 into my 2nd purse. I would go through the cupboards to see what you have their as you can probably make quite a few meals from cupboards and freezers if they're not empty :) Before I go shopping I meal plan what I'm going to have for the week (roughly as it's only lil old me) and go to the SM armed with a list. I always check online to see which SM near me is cheapest and if something is overpriced I will refuse to buy it and meal plan without it :)
I spend about £15 on veg a week, potatos, carrots, leeks, broccoli, onions etc then top up the cupboards. Hoping the 2nd purse will reduce the amount of topping up cupboards I have to do :)

    Hope that's of any use.

I've put some links on the front page now too :)

  • Polkadot - when my youngest was born he had bad colic and (as Kerri mentioned about her nephew) he had an allergy to milk products - I was breastfeeding but he was allergic to the ones I was eating. I had to give up milk products and eat soya dairy products instead. My health visitor suggested I try going without dairy produce for 2 days to see if it made a difference and it did - his colic subsided. May be worth mentioning it to health visitor if the situation doesn't improve.

My nephew has just turned 2 and they've only just diagnosed it as a milk allergy, they were pretty useless. He had what we thought was extremely bad eczma, but now he's cut out the dairy his skin is perfect. It's definitely worth trying dairy free just to see if it subsides, having a permanetly bloated tum is no fun for anyone :( hope it goes away soon for him.

Thanks Jakes-mum, my leaflet said 25th - 14th so not sure if different stores change on different dates?

Each week they also have special 1 week offers (which I think are also in the leaflet with big 'one week only' signs in the corner . . been a loooong time since I worked there!) and my store always change them on a thursday (hence why the 15% day is also thursday, so they can whip off the big money makers from special offer :rotfl:)

If you shop weekly I would only take out £100 and withdraw each week as its so easy to just pop something in your trolley you want but dont need, cos that money in your purse feels so heeeeeeavyyyyyyy
