Thought Id check in tonight too-despite not doing anything yet. My extra pencil bags were dispatched today so hopefully will be here tomorrow. I did draw £10 today (along with £40 for this months petrol budget).
Been up until 3am every night since thursday with colicky 2 week old so Im taking her to the chiropractor tomorrow afternoon...will " take stock" when I get home as she'll hopefully feel more relaxed after her session.
ETA: Oh and I also ordered a photo album to use to organise my coupons in.0 -

I had considered taking part in your challenge, albeit in my own style because I’m only buying for me, plus visitors, it would have been more like Ye Olde Shoppe or “Open all Hours”, where I as miserly Arkwright bought goods in bulk but my k..cu, k..cu, k..cucustomer bought in smaller portions – some of you will remember - pre fancy packaging - where you bought 1/2lb sugar and what you got was a couple of scoops weighed into a brown paper bag.
Over the past few months I‘ve been buying up bargains when I see them but now decided that I would start charging myself as per “Mothership’s 2nd purse”.
Because I couldn’t remember the “real price” I was searching through Mr A & Mr S websites (SM’s that I use) to find out what I should charge myself now, but have come to the conclusion that “they” are on to us and are constantly changing the sizes of goods that are on offer (probably to avoid the like for like comparison paybacks).
For example about 3 months ago I bought packs of D@z on promotion at Mr A, 42 washes box (2.856kg) for £4. Also got Len0r 1.5ltr offer at L!dl for £1.99. But searching websites the nearest size available is D@z 45washes = £8.79 Mr A and £10.00 at Mr S. Similarly Len0r bottles are now 1.4ltr at Mr S for £3.37 or 1.82ltr at Mr A for £3.90.
So although I will be unofficially taking part and making up prices as I go, I will be reading how well you are all getting on. Good luck.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Grocery spends = £113.010 -
Ok I've updated the 1st post to try to make it more understandable as to how it works, mothership can you let me know if it's explained clearer now? I've used the shopkeeper/customer analogy and examples of SM prices or cost + difference
I think between both our explanations everyone has grasped how it works now. Your doing a great job Kerri, thank you so much.
I'm blown away by the response and by how many have joined in such a short time.
I had to be careful mentioning the 2nd + 3rd Purse in the GC threads, as I didn't want to take away from anything the organisers were doing there. A great job I might add and a lovely bunch of folk.
Its much better 2nd Purse has its own thread, its much easier to find all the info we need and to keep each other motivated.
I'm still laughing at your 30 packs of beans :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think as I become more and more thrifty I'm also going to loathe actual SM prices especially with how they change from price per 100g to per kg and then switch sizes. But for now that's the price I'm setting as it's what I was spending before I got all thrifty. I would never spend £1 on beans though, so if it gets that bad in the SM then I'll stick my prices at something more reasonable.
Not 30 packs, 30 tinsI don't have space in the wardrobe for 120 tins hehehe

Kerri - is it helpful for us to add bargains to the thread? Or better to pm you? Loving the fact you have started this thread but dont want to cause you extra work!
Mr S has Persil Small & Mighty (54 washes) at £5 until 31/1/12 - which makes it a smidge cheaper per wash at 9p than Mr C's offer.
I got my calculator out today in order to decide whether to walk in the S's or the C's direction today:rotfl::D

Morning!
Thought I'd update before the children get up and all hell breaks loose.
Put £20 in my 2nd purse yesterday as C00p still have their Elmwood chicken breasts at half price (£3.75). Bought 4 packs and have stashed in my 2nd freezer. Also bought 2 packs of thirst pockets (twin pack for 99p).
I normally pay £5 for chicken breast so will charge that amount when i buy back. Also usually buy value kitchen towel (currently £1.25 for two) so will buy the thirst pockets back at that amount.
Pmsl at all the bean hoarding. Unfortunately we rarely have them as DS2 cannot abide them (think it's the texture rather than the taste), so no stashes behind the sofa for me! Sure I can find something else to stockpile tho
Currently my 2nd purse has £5.03 inside but my stockpile is worth £43.79 :T
Have a great day everyone and keep looking for those bargainsCross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings0 -
