Me & OH have just started shopping at Aldi, and I just want to say this thread has been a great help in us deciding what, and what not, to buy!
We tend to get our meat from the butcher, and veg/fruit from the market and now switching from Tesco to Aldi for the other bits we are saving so much money!
Yet to try it all but some particular favourites so far are:
-Jive/Racer bars
-Pitta breads
-Hot chili cooking sauce
-Monster Claws/Cheese Grids/Bacon Rasher Variety Crisp Pack
-Jam Teacakes
-Bagged salad
-Chopped tomatoes
Thanks again for all your tips, and keep them coming0 -
Lunch today was fresh wild squid Galician-style without additives, not from Marks and Spencer or Waitrose but the chilled section at Lidl.
The Trawfic frozen wild alaskan salmon isn't the best I've ever had, but it's great for quiches, salmon fishcakes, stuff like that and I've seen it as low as 1.99 a box.
Lidl does organic bananas, onions, carrots, eggs, milk, pasta and sometimes yogurt and cheese.0 -
A couple of new things in our Aldi.
Ham Trimmings - £1.75
doesn't sound great , but is..........
450g of thick ham slices and strips - look likes when I carve a joint.
Taste great.
Macintosh red apples - tray of 4 for 1.49
kids favourite apples - often hard to get , also lovely.0 -
Aldi sell roses for £3 which last for ages and look amazing.0

I love Aldi but have got a bit lazy lately and stuck to Sainsburys as it is nearer and time is precious.
I don't rate the hob nob copy cereal bars in a purple and yellow packet, nothing like the original ones. Aldi's cereals are lovely as are their teackes/baps. My granddad loves their own pringles but won't eat their cheese but I find it ok, along with yoghurts, milk, ice cream, washing powder, cans of pears cider, bitter, ham, salad, mince meat, salmon and especially love the salmon encroute. Have this every other Sunday
Aldi's nappies and wipes are great and also cheaper.0 -
Haven't tried the copy cereal bars, but I prefer Aldi's copy Hob Nob biscuits to the originals. Oatier and not so sweet. Their Basmati rice at £1.29 a kilo is fantastic.
So many good value Christmas specials at the moment - mixed nuts in shell 400g £1.99, £3.00 for 500g Tesco. Aldi luxury salted nuts £2.29.
The luxury and ordinary cheese selection packs are good value. Similar are on offer at Tesco atm half price, which brings them into the same price range as Aldi. (£3.99 /£4.99)
My local Tesco had sold out though, as usual!
I noticed some very well-heeled looking shoppers in my local Aldi earlier, perusing the Christmas specials aisle. I was picking up the luxury Black Forest Stollen, £3.99. I can't find it on the website so can't put a link.

Has anyone tried this? I was going to get the "standard" Aldi stollen @ £1.99 (saw a good review of it somewhere). Is the Black Forest one worth the difference?
Thanks in advance.0 -
From Lidl.....I like the Norwegian Sliced Salmon which has bits of chilli around the edges & comes with a sachet of horseradish sauce.0

Hi you
Has anyone tried their Amaretto Liqueur? If so how does it compare to Disaronno brand? I am thinking of some for Christmas treats.0 -
