I do my weekly shop at Aldi. Every week i buy Oranges, Bananas, Blueberries, Kiwis and Apples. I never have to throw fruit from Aldi away, the Blueberries i keep in the fridge and buy Strawberries from them in the summer. I don't buy them in the winter because i prefer English strawberries.

I could probably save pennies by buying them elsewhere but when i factor in petrol, it's not worth it. I don't buy fruit from any of the big supermarkets, unless it's on offer, cheaper than Aldi and on my doorstep !

in my 'local' Aldi the fruit and veg is very fresh. hardly ever had to discard any. in the other Aldi a few minutes further away - its dire! its almost rotting on the shelves. This is definitely down to stock management instore.
I noticed this when I worked in a Somerfield store - the fruit and veg manager was very inexperienced and didn't have a clue! the produce was often kept in storage for days and definitely wasn't a patch on the local market which was just outside the store.

Hit and miss on quality, here it depends how well staffed they are to sort through their veg. No reductions on fruit and veg in either but regular prices are mostly much better than the big 4. Special offers are great value but tend not to keep very long. I wish there was more organic veg in both.

Why is this thread "Expired" ? Someone pressed the button by mistake?

During Aldi's recent Christmas foodstuff sale I bought a box of Noccolia, 16 pieces of hazelnut chocolate balls for 99p. They taste absolutely identical to Ferrero Roches to me, the only difference is that they are not individually wrapped in gold foil! Even at full price of 1.99 really good value.

I'm an Aldi shopper for most things but I avoid their fruit and veg. I have tried side by side comparisons and I find the quality often quite poor. Onions (and I'm not the only poster on this forum to have said this) seem to be a weak spot but I also dislike their potatoes and their grapes rot too quickly.

The cheapest sources of fruit and veg I have found are in street markets but sadly not everyone has those today. The best sources for quality (though not price) are specialist fruiterers and greengrocers but they are also a vanishing breed.

Some people on here seem to find Aldi's quality satisfactory and I'm at a loss to explain why there could be such different experiences.

Never had a problem with either fruit or veg from Aldi. In fact I'm still using up onions (both red & white) from the bottom of my fridge that I bought over a month ago and they're still fresh and crisp.

Can't speak for Lidl as I don't have a store close enough to visit regularly.

    I love Aldi's Granola.
It is very good value for money as you get 1kg instead of part of a kilo & it is cheaper.
It is also healthier than a lot of other Granola's.
I did a taste test of the brand that I was buying, Tesco's own, Sainsbury's own and Aldi's. Aldi's granola was far and away the tastiest.
So it's a win win win from 3 points of view.

Aldi's Granola is like crack to me. Will sit down with the pack and just nibble straight from the bag.

Restricted myself to one bag a month now.

Did try Lidi's version and did not like it.

I can only assume that it varies from store to store and comes down, maybe, to their storage and stock management.

I have been buying most of my fruit and veg from Aldi for donkey's years, without cause for complaint. I love their Sable grapes and can keep those in the fridge for up to three weeks. (Unlike others I have never had a problem with their onions either). In recent years I can only recall having to chuck one item away and that was some apricots which I found really unpalatable. The only veg I buy elsewhere are potatoes as I have never found a better spud than Sainsbury's TTD Vivaldi variety! And I am happy to pay a bit more for them!

One of the Aldis near me, which is the one I use 90% of my Aldi shopping is closed for four weeks for refurbishment. What normally happens in these refurbishment? It was closed for 3-4 days 2 years ago.
