I don't really regard aldi or lidl cheaper than tezcorp or sainsbugs value
The quality is often far superior to the bog standard value range at both.

You should shop at Aldi then and treat yourself.

Fox's biscuits (red tin),from Aldi, are only 1p cheaper than at Tesco.(Actually dearer if you factor in the 3p in reward points).

    It bears repeating....

The general advice & consensus of experienced Aldi & Lidl shoppers is that care is required when buying (big)-branded goods there. Whilst there may be occasionally good offers on them, the general principle is that A & L are not in the market of being competitive on such products, and they may well be the same price or cheaper elsewhere.

More generally, there seems to be a popular misconception that A and/or L claim to be "cheapest" (whatever that means). They don't make such a claim, nor would it be worth much if they did.

Buyer Beware should always be the starting point when dealing with any UK retailer. However, the less gimmicky A & L "discounter" proposition is probably a better/easier place to start from than the proposition of the big supermarkets.

Caveat emptor also applies to anything specifically packaged for Christmas. Its all a big fat marketing con designed to part us from our hard-earned.

Although even when people claim that Tesco are pricing matching to Aldi or Lidl , it isnt always the case - as this thread shows. OP says that Tesco are pricing matching Aldi - but if you do the arithmetic they are actually still 15% -> 20% higher

I bought a few things in Tesco the other day as Aldi don't stock Tassimo coffee pods (currently on offer in Tesco) and my receipt said I'd saved 25p by shopping no with them. Complete lie because if I removed the Tassimo pods from the bill then I'd have been better off getting the few other items I bought in Aldi. For convenience sake it did actually work out roughly same considering my nearest Aldi is 18miles away lol

Tesco don't price match with Aldi or Lidl. In fact, no one does now that Morissons have stopped.
  • As a Local Aldi opened almost 2 mins from us we started to do shopping their, but over the last month or two noticed that prices have started to increase - but noticed that the ready meals, that was once 89p, which where very nice, dropped to 69p bargain, however the quality changed over time and now the price has gone up to 75p, if anyone else has noticed a similar pattern? they keep the packaging the same, but change the item inside,
