I'm sure I'm not the first to comment, but the Lidl Deluxe Irish Cream is yum, more than acceptable pass for a Baileys.

Went in for the cheapo Irish County Cream, but it doesn't seem to contain any whiskey - a wine and cream combo doesn't sound appealing anyone tried it?

Also, does anyone know what's happened to Lidl's Turkish Set Yoghurt (1kg) they haven't had it for weeks?

Aldi cream crackers .... Sorry to say they are more 3/10 compared to Jacobs 10/10 .... . Not tried the the Lidl recipe yet.

We found the taste to be fine but every pack we have bought has mostly broken crackers. Clearly they have not been handled properly. We have stopped buying them. We get the Morrison own brand. Half the price of Jacob's and taste the same.

If you like Ferrero Rocher chocolates then try Noccolia from Aldi. They are a lot cheaper and I think they taste the same. The only difference is the chocs are not wrapped in gold paper;)

Both Lidl & Aldi sundried tomatoes are good.
The oil in these jars makes a great base for a salad dressing too.

As disgusting as it sounds, its actually fine to drink (I've tried this, and then bought a huge bottle - 1.5L? - of a similar product from Asda last year). But then my family has never served Baileys without a good slug of alcoholic enhancement in it...last year I went for Tia Maria and Creme de Menthe and made "After Eights". No more for me this year!

Much though I love Aldi, I have to give a thumbs down on Bramwell pickled red cabbage:(.

Just in case anyone was planning on buying pickled cabbage for the festive season. The jar I bought last week is decidedly un-crunchy and limp. Flavour's fine but I want a bit more body.

I'd echo that - and add the beetroot in 'vinegar' too.

All the Aldi pickled products use a water/acetic acid mix instead of malt vinegar for cheapness. That would be fine if it didn't affect the flavour, but it does. Pickled products are one of the few Aldi food areas that we avoid altogether.

I'm not that keen on pickles with the exception of Gherkins. I've had them from both Aldi & Lidl, and am not sure there is a vast difference - except in price. (Aldi's are 69p and Lidl's are over £1). The Lidl sliced gherkins are particularly handy for slotting in to a sandwich. Pastrami, mustard & pickles - delicious.

Has anyone tried the Aldi Chilli Gherkins - I'm tempted, but it's a large jar to dispose of if they turn out to be too spicy.
  • I looked in the fridge this morning to find the Aldi brand of green beans, that I had opened on Thursday, covered in mould :(

  • Oh my days, I LOVE gherkins. I tried Aldi's once and they were nasty. but back then, they only had one type (in plain salted vinegar, unsweetened). Now they have those ones, sweet and sour, and chilli. I love Saindbury's sweet gherkins, so I'm hoping Aldi's sweet and sour ones will be just as nice.

Do the chilli ones have bits of red chilli floating around? I imagine they wouldn't be too hot aslong as you aren't getting mouthfuls of that.

You shouldn't leave things stored in open tins in the fridge as it can be harmful. That could happen to any brand left open for 5 days, not necessarily just Aldi.

If I open a tin of beans and don't use them all I put the rest in a sealed container and use within 48 hours. Never had a problem with mould.
