Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Given that the Aldi/Lidl Danish competitor Netto (new-style Netto, in partnership with Sainsbury's) are planning to have 15 stores open by the end of the year, it might be useful to add Netto comments to this thread.
Netto's going to have to be good to compete with Aldi and Lidl - let's hope it's more successful this time round than it was last time.0 -

I would say no. Isnt going to to be relevant to the vast majority of people, and it is sometimes difficult at the moment to determine if some posts are about Aldi or Lidl , so adding a third will make it worse.
Nothing wrong with starting a "good & bad buys from Netto" thread0 -

But Netto, Aldi and Lidl are the only three low-cost supermarkets - and they all operate on pretty much the same lines, with similar goods (sourced from much the same suppliers) and similar prices.
They also have similar customer bases (such as people in this thread) and it would be easier to have just one combined thread than have 2 or 3 different places to look.0 -
If Netto are going to only have 15 stores by the end of the year, most of us won't live close enough for any info to matter. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

I think you might be surprised.
There are currently 5 branches within easy reach of several million people in the north of England, with another 10 planned to open by the end of the year, bringing them within reach of even more people.
Southerners may miss out for the time being - but it took them a long time to latch on to Aldi and Lidl too!0 -
Seafood in Lidl - none of the fresh seafood in my local Lidl is ever wild, and I've seen some horrible YouTube vids of manky Far Eastern seafood farming operations. The frozen lobsters and salmon fillets should be wild though, I've had wild before.
I had been buying Ecover laundry products but been increasingly annoyed with them. I don't want to pay more for stiff clothing with stains.

I think that's an outdated view. I've shopped in Aldi for a number of years and the clientele has changed greatly. When I started going there it was essential to go to another SM to finish my shopping , now Aldi's range is much greater so top-ups are occasional. It doesn't just cater for people who don't have much money but for those who have money but hate being ripped off.0 -
Just ate a Lidl bakery jam doughnut each in our house, hands free, to celebrate national donut day
19p a pop - sooooo light. Love em. And love seeing sugar up DSs nose and jam dribbling down DDs cheek...OH came up with a white beard from all the sugar stuck to the hair!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Couldn't agree with you more.
By 'similar customer bases' I meant simply the same sort of people (like most of us in this thread). People who like value and quality, appreciate that Aldi/Lidl/Netto provide it, and have ditched Tesco et al because they're simply overpriced.
I can assure you that the clientele and the cars at our local Aldi are considerably upmarket on the Tesco next door. Only a fool would be snobby about Aldi/Lidl/Netto and insist on sticking to Tesco - but there are plenty about. :rotfl:0 -
I use Aldi & Lidl nearly all the time and I find the quality and prices very good it doesn't surprise me most of the supermarkets are struggling they need to reduce their prices by at least a 1/3 example soft cheese average £1 plus Lidl 49p Double cream £1 and more Aldi 69p Cat treats £1.25 Aldi 69p they are just a few comparisons.Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs
Since first using Martins I have saved thousands0
