  • Porridge oats always disappear in the better weather as "nobody wants porridge in the summer" they say (well I do!!) But they don't usually disappear this early!

Tins of sardines and mackerel in tomato sauce disappeared from our store a couple of weeks back but pleased to report they are back again!

All ways have porridge oats in both the Aldi's and Lidl's in my town, all five of them!

Always on sale even in the Summer.

Perhaps the local manager is micro managing his stock level.

No Porridge Oats in the Bromsgrove Aldi store today either and I wanted some because I love it (I eat it all year round).

Mum has introduced me to their jars of Fairtrade Coffee so I picked one up today. I usually drink Dowe Egberts Pure Gold but it is expensive and it isn't always easy finding bargains.

I picked up some Xmas cards for 99p and a chocolate Santa for 39p. I also managed to get a box of biscuits for £1.39.

Aldi have started selling filtered milk too which is cheaper than Cravendale (not opened it yet though as I still have Cravendale to drink).

I assume we are talking about Aldi 1Kg Everyday Porridge Oats. Not seen any of those here in Medway for months.

New price cuts in Aldi - they seem to be targeting "basics".

    6 Large Free Range Eggs - 89p [STRIKE]99p[/STRIKE]
    Beautifully Buttery/Light - 79p [STRIKE]89p[/STRIKE]
    12 Fresh Beef Meatballs - £1.49 [STRIKE]£1.99[/STRIKE]
    Savour Bakes Wheat/Multigrain crackers - 72p [STRIKE]82p[/STRIKE]

Aldi also now stocking Low-low frozen ready meals. SEL shows £1.49, but I was charged £1.25. (These are typically £1.49-£1.99 in Morrison's and Asda).

Good riddance imo...don't know where they found those, no country of origin on the packet. They were just good enough for my hens, floury and stale tasting porridge. Lidl's oats it is any time for me since.

Cheaper than, indeed - and identical. From the same Arla 'dairy'.

On a similar vein, does the store manager/anyone know when and why certain items seem to disappear? There haven't been any Thai style fishcakes since Christmas and porage oats seem to have gone too.

I emailed Aldi and got a quick but not particularly helpful response.

Apparently as an Everyday Essential they should have the porridge so I'm to ask the manager.

After some confusion with the fishcakes (they said it was a one off special which it isn't as I've been buying them for 3+ years) sowe're still on the case.

While I was at it I complained about the website where it wants date of purchase/consumption etc etc before you can ask a question. I just invent dates as if something's not available then you haven't purchased it, that's the point!! They say my comments are being passed on.

Efficient service anyway even if I got nowhere.;)
