That's odd , as it has always been the last Thursday in the month, but thanks:D

Apologies - I've corrected it to Thursday. It's a week early, as it sometimes is when the last Thursday is very close to the last day of the month.

Someone asked a while back about Aldi instant mashed potato, and we came to the conclusion they didn't sell it.

They do sell large tins of New Potatoes for 15p. They are tinned in water with no salt or sugar. No idea where they stand nutritionally vs. other potato products, but they mash easily and just need microwaving for a couple of minutes. Be aware that they need to be mashed before microwaving, as they tend to explode if microwaved whole.

The degu recommends Great Scot Dried Vegetables from Morrisons. I did tell him that the thread is for Aldi & Lidl, but he wanted another name-check. :)

Tried the Jamaican rum truffles with my coffee earlier (reduced price stock leftover from Christmas). Wouldn't recommend them.

I had some of those. I thought they were way too squishy, so I put them in the fridge and they were much better.

Reduced Christmas stuff at our local Aldi - 25 p reindeer (right next to the full price bunnies, lol) , Puddings were also reduced but I don't like them very much.

Have just tried them again after reading Cornucopia's post....agree about the squishyness, but there is something else about them I don't like either. Can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps it's because they are so very sweet? I think I'm going to chop them into tiny pieces and add them to a coffee cake next time I make one. They'll go in the fridge for now.

One thing I can recommend is Lidl's Valley Spire Lighter Mature cheese. I'm not into reduced fat cheeses, this tastes okay but to my surprise and delight melts really well and makes delicious cheese on toast.

I'm only posting this here because bagels had come up in comparison before and it would be of interest to someone - our local fresh bakery M's had 3 varieties and 6 for £ 1.25 this week.

Vfm4, I fully agree on the lighter mature cheddar form Lidl. I only bought one because it was YS to try it and it is surprisingly nice for low fat.

They sell mashed potato in the chiller cabinet. I've never tried it as I'm not that lazy to buy ready made mash lol

Good price on some of the other Valley Spire Cheddar next week ( 29th -> 4th )

    Mild £1.39 for 350g ( £3.97 per Kg )
    Vintage £1.59 for 350g ( £4.54 per Kg )
  • Aldi's camembert is lovely and cabbagey and ripe. Very reasonable price and their wheat and multigrain crackers are very short and good. I have a preference for krackawheat, but these crackers are very good albeit not as salty.
