Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

There's a voucher in today's Express for £5 off £40 at Lidl if that's of interest to anyone - and doubtless a warning of hurricanes and a plague of locusts on Christmas Day.
Wasn't the Express owner the one who just gave a huge donation to UKIP? He can stick his vouchers somewhere, not paying for his paper :rotfl:First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

they still have their Ritter Sport chocolate offer of £1.49 for 250g on for another full week.0 -

...is it just me or is there a distinct air of irony at the Express/UKIP giving vouchers which would unwittingly support a "they-come-'ere-they-take-our-jobs-(sorry)-shops..." supermarket (Lidl)0 -
Lidl have always sold the Daily Express ever since they started selling papers. Our Aldi now sells newspapers and magazines, which added a bit to my bill.
The Aldi mature cheddar with French champagne is heavenly, c. 150g. Genuinely one of the nicest cheeses I've ever tasted, and I lurrve cheese. The Aldi website very helpfully gives cost per kilo costings if you want to work out the relative value of the cheese selections.
There is shedloads of stuff in Aldi that I didn't see in the brochure or online. I got the round oblaten lebkuchen (iced and chocolate dipped gingerbread), I think it was down to 79p.
Loads of fruit and nut mixes, savoury biscuits and snacks, I now feel slightly sick after eating half a pack of dark chocolate cranberries.
I liked the Aldi candy canes which were red, green and white, as a change from the usual red and white, 99p, our store had them at the till, along with some chocolate tree decorations.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Deluxe Amontillado Sherry Trifle 700g £2-79@ Lidl ... and it's REALLY good!
With sponge; good-flavoured jelly and with grated chocolate on top. :T
Not too big ..... maybe 4 servings at a push ........ or 2 "my-size" generous servings!
This is the best out of four different brands I've tried so far, & Tesco's is a distant second.
SO ............... I for one will certainly be off there for more.0 -

No more ironic than Aldi advertising in the Mirror, which is as equally blind in its hatred of the capitalism that both Aldi and Lidl thrive on.
They are businesses. They do what works.0 -
Was passing today - and they didnt have any of the more interesting looking flavoured stuff left - so you may be out of luck with Lidl
If you aren't in the market for 'interesting' flavours, you can't go far wrong with Lidl's Stilton.

So many nice foods to sample ths Chrimbo, so little stomach space.....!
Will look out for the cheese with champagne and sherry trifle. Lidl Stitlton is great, I often buy it when reduced and stick it in the freezer. Its really good melted into brocolli soup (yes really!).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I went to M&S yesterday (only because I had vouchers) can't believe how expensive they are, £4 for a few chipolatas wrapped in bacon and £10 for a trifle, went to Aldi this morning and did the last of my shopping and got both items for just over a fiver! I know they will taste good so that's fine by me.
M&S seem to have a lot of very bad dates on their food and a lot of stacked shelves! Long live Aldi!0
