This is a frequent problem at Aldi because of the till speed. It rarely happens anywhere else (including Lidl) but it happens time and time again at Aldi. Their store managers, and their senior management, know all about it but choose to ignore it - until, that is, it hits Watchdog or the papers (which it will). Then it will be - goodness, we didn't know that, how did that happen, we'll sort it out immediately. Shock, horror.

I'm a big Aldi fan (as A Badger has pointed out, more than once) but this is a serious issue and it needs sorting before it hits the headlines.

Better for it to hit the headlines then they would seriously do something about it. Random customers complaints won't reach the Management. It stays at store level and might get mentioned in managers/staff/departments meeting and nothing will be done because these lower ranks staff don't have power to do anything.
The management must get to hear about it, if not from internal feedback then from public feedback ie headlines.

I just got one off those interesting pictures in my mind of you stabbing your receipt with your pen as you find a mistake on it because you have been overcharged.:)

Yes, I think I need to get out more!! :o

    Nothing will happen.

Aldi hit the headlines in the Daily Mail over the condition of the plants they were selling were half dead and wilting within days.

Been to my 2 local sites since. The plants are still dry and half dead!

I've been overcharged more than once too, it won't stop me shopping there. I'm always refunded at the checkout, no problem. It's just the way things are scanned, i always check my receipt before i start packing my stuff.

But, looked at another way, can you think of one store which would have added an item costing that much to your bill that you hadn't bought?

Sorry but I cant agree with this - I have shopped at Aldi for nigh on 15 years now and this has NEVER happened before.

I normally check the receipt as we pack our shopping - but was in a hell of a rush. I didn't think it was too high - I was expecting a higher than normal bill anyway.
Yes, I have had the occasional item show up twice - but as I have been instore usually get it refunded by the cashier who served me. no hassle there.
but it wasn't a barcode number - it was a PLU number. the assistant had probably mis-remembered the PLU code for the Broad Beans.

you did sort of miss my point though - I took the receipt back the next day and even though I can't prove I didn't purchase a 'complete bedroom set', the manager held up her hand, and said straight away she knew it to be an error and refunded me and apologised.
This doesn't happen in other stores - I have spent far far longer getting a simple refund on damaged goods than yesterday for an item I couldn't even prove I hadn't purchased! for all I knew they may have had them in the reduced bin!

I usually find the staff on my normal shopping day to be extremely fast and accurate. its very very rare for there to be an error - though I do normally CHECK!

Believe me - I've taken this right to the top in the Aldi UK corporate structure, and they're very well aware of the issue.

All you ever get from them, though, is offers of compensation (which is not what I'm looking for) and platitudes.

The problem is very well known, but frankly it suits them to ignore it and hope not too many people notice it. The party line from Aldi is that it's a price customers have to pay on occasion to enable Aldi to keep prices down by high till speeds. They stress that they'll always give a refund when it happens (and they do) but what they will not do is address the problem by cutting till speeds or improving the tills. That would cost them money, and customers are clearly being unreasonable if they expect that to happen.

So, basically, put up or shut up. :D

Out of the last 11 post on this page 9 of them have nothing to do with good or bad buys from Aldi or Lidl. Instead there are a small number of posters who only want to talk about how much Aldi has overcharged and the reasons for it. This is happening more and more on this thread now.

As a relatively new customer of Aldi I read this thread to see what people think of the products. However I am having to scan down umpteen unrelated posts to find information that I want. Sometimes an entire page can go by with no actual products mentioned.

If the people posting about Aldi overcharging genuinely beleive it is a nationwide problem why not start a thread asking people to report overcharging incidents. This would not only give a clearer view of the extent of the problem but it would mean those of us that just want to read about the products could do so.
