I don't understand this attacking mentality. As A. Badger says it is a shop, this thread is good and bad buys. Personally I don't like the coffee or deodorant, their range is restrictive, but that is their business model, that is why they are cheap!! If they happen to do all the things that you buy then great, but for a lot of us they don't. I am not a necessarily a typical shopper, but it does make the majority of my shopping much cheaper than it used to. I do think that their range has improved significantly ( because they stock more items that I buy) and their quality on the whole is very good. I tend to prefer Aldi, but recently have popped into Lidl bit more often. Any subsequent comments refer to Aldi, unless otherwise stated!

I like their cold meat, much better value than other supermarkets, their veg, French fries - both in crisps and frozen! Brioche is too yummy for my waistline, they have discontinued a few of the breads we like, though. Meat is mostly red tractor and good value and quality. I don't like the dishwasher tablets, but have issues, ever since we got this Bosch ( very low water use) machine, with smell.

    A. Badger puzzles me a bit. Doesn't seem to like Aldi yet often posts on this thread?

I'd love to try the brioche, sounds delish but daren't go down that route...!

Back to the topic - any comments on Aldi strawberries? Need some good ones, have been disappointed with Lidl's (tasteless, last time I bought was Mothers Day weekend), could go for Sainsbos it M&S but are Aldi's worth a try? Popping in for some gladioli in the morning, also got some excellent plants last week and am hoping to repeat tomorrow.

Had some strawberries from Aldi last week, absolutely delicious. As were the nectarines :D

Do you know anyone that buys 100% of their food, cleaning products, booze, toiletries etc from Aldi or Lidl?

For me that is out of the question as have issues with some of Aldi's produce and all of their flavoured yoghurts. Plus you cannot get smoked paprika in their spice jars!

Never bought any of their toiletries as I buy them when they are on offer or in £ shops. For example - bottles of shower gel when they are £1 or less. My friend has sensitive skin like me and one shampoo caused her scalp to become very sore and bleed in places.I could not tell you which Aldi shampoo it was.

  • Has anyone recommended the magnum-type ice-cream lollies? They're delicious and as nice as magnums, only £1.99 for 6. Not sure what they are called but the brand is Gellatelli or something similar.

You are wasting your money when buying strawberries outside May - Aug/Sept as they are not British and therefore tasteless.

I bought a box from Morrisons, marked down from £2.00 to £1.49 two weeks ago. And, I was dead surprised they lasted good for than 1 week in the fridge ,considering marked down means near expiry date and not expected to last long.
They were delicious and sweet, lasted so many days because I only use them to add into plain yoghurt.

Very strange! Makes me wonder what preservation was used to give them long shelf life.

We do a weekly shop at Aldi and pretty much get everything that we need. That said I do a shop every 6 weeks for dog and cat food. My food eats the Aldi Earl range but likes the Pedigree chum bite size mixer so I have to go elsewhere to buy that. My 13 year old cat will only eat a certain cat food and at 13 I think he deserves what he likes. There are some things I can't get at Aldi (Maggi sauce and chilli flakes) so I get these odds and sods every 6 weeks with the cat and dog food. Minus the pet stuff I would say we spend less than £10 every 6 weeks on the top up stuff.

I like their yogurts (Greek 4 pack of lemon and strawberry are nice) and I like the big pack of Greek yogurt. We haven't had a disaster with anything that we have bought and are saving about £40 a week compared to our old spend.

I am expecting so if anyone can comment on the nappies and wipes that would be great as they seem to be very good value.
Trying to save money and always open to ideas and expecting our first child in March 2015.

Aldi polarising sunglasses are back tomorrow. At £4 a pair they are an absolute bargain.

i agree toilet roll in pound shop or wilkinson tends to be better quality and value than Aldi. The good quality ones in Lidl is very x.

I bought Aldi Lacura face wipe at last shopping trip, tried it last night and was suitably impressed with it. It's fairly big sheet and moist. Next use I will half or even quarter it as that should be sufficient to do the job.

Pork chop at £1.29 this week end Lidi offer is best buy. I bought quite a few boxes as did the person before me, and people on the queue had more boxes than I have.

If you go back the pages you will find people commended on nappies being good, not sure which one though Lidl or Aldi, but IIRC seems to be lidl, but you have to check back. Use the search field, type in nappies, and see what comes up.

It certainly does considering the ones I pick from my garden need to be eaten within 24 hours otherwise they start to shrivel up.
