  • Re nappies, Aldi ones are generally good but either they've changed the design or there have been a few dodgy batches as they've been rubbish recently (seen several others say the same on other forums)

    The Aldi wipes are lovely.

I second that. Wipes are lovely and nappies were too. My daughter now thinks Lidl are slightly better. We have never bothered with the brands.

I finally checked my receipt from my weekly Aldi shop this morning. I didn't think too much at the time it was particularly high as I had to stock a new fridge and bought quite a few non food items.
what I DIDNT buy was a 'Complete Bedroom Set' at £17.99! jeez! how did that get on there???????????? no barcode number but a PLU. after discussion with OH we decide to go back to store with receipt and explain we didn't buy this item. not expecting anything but 'yes - you left the store now prove you didn't buy it'!
instead the member of staff took one look and called the manager. the manager examined the receipt and called someone to open a till and refund the debit card. Apologised for the mistake and asked if we knew who had served us. couldn't remember, just that it was a guy with glasses we hadn't seen before.
    got our refund no problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the manager did say 'we aren't currently stocking that item at that price so obviously a mistake was made'.
the whole process took less than five minutes!
I was impressed! I have worked in retail for over forty years and cannot think of one store who would have done that with no quibbling!

we did work out later we now owe Aldi the price of a pack of Broad Beans!

I'm glad you had excellent customer service. Full marks to Aldi for this.

That being said, I've now taken to checking my receipt immediately I leave the checkout EVERYWHERE!

I saw a minor error in an Aldi receipt a few weeks ago and then a large error in a Sainsbury's one.

I'm going to be a serial receipt checker from now on.:)

I have also had this (once in about 3 years of Aldi shopping).

There seems to be a problem with their tills where the barcode mis-scans to a valid alternative item. Not helped by the fact that all their own-brand stuff lacks the numeric version of the barcode, so it's not obvious what the nature of the misread is (ie. how similar the offending barcodes were).

Good that they sorted out without fuss, though.

Whilst it's not an excuse (they should always be 100% accurate), I've found other supermarkets to be significantly less reliable - generally with higher prices being charged than are indicated, and with special offers not being recognised.

I bought a kilo of mild cheddar cheese in Lidls today, I have bought it before and its very good value at £4.79 per kilo.I divide it into three chunks and wrap and freeze it and its fine when defrosted

i agree toilet roll in pound shop or wilkinson tends to be better quality and value than Aldi. The good quality ones in Lidl is very x.

    .

I used to buy Cushelle when it was on offer in Lidl but it's gone up considerably in price over the past couple of years. Recently when I needed some and no offer, I picked up some Nicky Elite in Savers (tried normal Nicky before and wasn't overly impressed) - u'm converted so unfortunately Lidl has lost a toilet roll customer.

That said their soft cheese with herbs is lovely, much lighter than Philadelphia I find.

Oh, and Marmite 250g @ £2.49 is cheaper than Tesco / Waitrose / Sainsburys (varies by 11p - 1p diff) and on par with Asda / Morries and Aldi. Was quite surprised as I sometimes find their branded goods more expensive.

I had experienced over charged everywhere. So I am a serial checker too.

At Tesco and Morrisons you are directed to Customer Service to get the refund which can be a nuisance when there is a queue. At Lidl and Aldi they just give you the cash at the till, less hazzle.

What is the normal price? I've lost track since I stopped buying roll from Lidl.
