Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

The best strawberries I have had lately were the bog standard ones from Tesco. A work colleague brought them in and put on a plate so didn't see the carton. I assumed they were Marks or Waitrose, was gobsmacked when he said Tesco. That is only one tasting though so don't know whether he just happened upon a carton that was better than normal.0

I use Aldi but I am not emotionally attached to it. I find it curious that people will invest so much emotional capital in a business which, like all businesses, has its good and bad points.

I'd love to try the brioche, sounds delish but daren't go down that route...!
Back to the topic - any comments on Aldi strawberries? Need some good ones, have been disappointed with Lidl's (tasteless, last time I bought was Mothers Day weekend), could go for Sainsbos it M&S but are Aldi's worth a try? Popping in for some gladioli in the morning, also got some excellent plants last week and am hoping to repeat tomorrow.
You are wasting your money when buying strawberries outside May - Aug/Sept as they are not British and therefore tasteless. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I think a number of us who started with a ground zero opinion of Aldi, and wouldn't want to be seen there are now consistently surprised by it. Inverse snobbery if you like.
I'm not one for processed foods so can't comment, but the fresh food at both Lidl and Aldi are good quality at a better price than the big 4.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I know this is the Aldi/Lidl thread but on the subject of strawberries, I have had some lovely ones in the last couple of weeks from two different Asda stores.
I usually stock up at Aldi when I get a £5 off voucher from the Mirror and find that everything is very good. It's a bit out of my way so I don't go each week.

Bought Lidls Torta Imperial the other week when they had Spanish themed week.
Can anyone tell me what this is meant to be like?
I mean, is it a squishy soft delicous chewy nougat or a brick hard rock (break your teeth on it) kind of one ?
I opened the box and inside sealed wrapper tonight and found it as hard as a brick when I was expecting lovely soft chewy nougat.
Do I bin it or return it ?? bearing in mind I don't keep my grocery receipts.Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0 -

I buy the strawberries from aldi almost every week - they do a huge tray for I think £1.99. Have been lovely up to now, but agree that as the year goes on, they will be less tasty as the British ones. I choose my pack carefully and they last well in the fridge.
Not on the topic of berries, but related to aldi/lidl, I thought this was interesting reading...
