Discount supermarkets on ITV now. How the big supermarkets are responding to competition from Aldi and Lidl

Luckily enough neither set of shoppers will return, easier for the regulars:D

Had Aldi's SS chocolate and raspberry cheesecake (frozen) at my parents. Unsure it it's a special buy or not. Really scrummy and chocolatey.

That would depend upon the individual store. Some treat their plants well and water regularly whilst others neglect them and they're half dead. I saw some acers at the store last night but to be honest I've seen better examples in my local nursery for the same money.

The Aldis around me don't bother looking after any plants. I have seen weeds in the plant pots which are taller and healthier looking than the actual plant!!

If these stores are unable to keep their plants watered etc, they should not be selling plants!

Bought my first pack of the 8 choc chip brioche rolls from Aldi for 99p and they are lovely. I like that they are individually wrapped so ideal to take into work for a snack.

I saw some of that programme. The big 4 still don't understand Aldi and Lidl (I refuse to call them "discounters" because they aren't) do they?

I still haven't heard from any of the big 4 why they cannot compete with the Germans on price when if they are so much larger they should have much better buying power.

Which program was that, please? Might be able to watch it on catch-up?

Funny in a way that A & L are such good news here as in Germany they are quite low on the spectrum. Messy, untidy but cheap. They also don't have a good reputation for treating their staff over there, scandals ranging from hidden cameras to low pay. They are quite a different story here and I'm very happy that they livened up the supermarket landscape in the last years! The big 4 have understood as much as that a lot of food has come down in price lately ;). Will watch that later, thanks!

Agree that it is an irritating label they have been given - whole point is that you don't have to look around for the 'discounts'.
