Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

The only thing I dont like about Aldi is that they dont let you put your shopping back into the basket when you check out. They do with the trolley but with a big basket worth of groceries you are supposed to pack it as they throw it at you.
Basically its impossible to pack a bag at the speed its chucked at you then its stressfull because they are wanting paying whilst you are packing the bag. It does put me off a bit.
I think next time I will take a trolley round even if I get 10 things.0 -

We were in the Washington Aldi a few weeks back, we used a basket but when I was at the checkout I was told to repack into it, instead of leaving it at the front of the till, they are the first store to change it, but it will be going national apparently, still cant do it this way at my local yet though.
ETA: A quick thumbs up for the Sticky Toffee Pudding thats on special this week, its absolutely blooming heavenly.0 -
Being Easter I thought I would treat myself to some slightly more expensive wines than my usual cheapo Toro Loco. The one I sampled last night was really rather good - Nero D'Avola Terre Siciliane - especially for £4.99 a bottle! Will get that again. Another good buy from Aldi!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I Couldn't resist the Polarising sunglasses for £3.99. Lots of styles, similar styles in Boots are £30+.
Thinking about it I will be back on Monday for another 2 or 3 pairs as I am always in the wrong car when I need them!0 -

I agree about this wine. Good price & tastes good. Some Pinot Grigio wines ive seen/like (tesco etc), are priced between £7 & £10.
In fact, having a glass of this just now, on this lovely sunny Saturday0 -

I always use a trolley.
But does anyone else have stores with very few small trollies? I feel silly pushing a big trolley for 7 items. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Staff is just trained to be quick at the tills but if you are slow in packing (if I don't take a trolley I carry bags with me or grab an empty veg box) what can they do? Just don't get stressed out - they can't process the next customer if your stuff is still lying there either wayFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

If I'm using a hand basket then I take one of those lifetime bags from one of the major supermarkets with me. A basketful of shopping fits perfectly into them entirely. I just make sure the heavier stuff is first on the conveyor belt with delicate items placed last so packing a single bag as you go is relatively easy
I really don't understand this hatred of checking out. All my experiences, thus far, and have been extremely positive. But then I do tend to shop between 20:00-22:00 which is invariably a quiet period. Why do others not do the same?
Actually forget that, I don't want evenings to get any busier“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
