It says two years - thanks Leeds lass for posting that. It seems that in Bedfordshire they take defrauding the elderly seriously, whilst in Leeds they don't sadly.

Powermatic/[TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT] have changed their name again - they are now More Than Mobility Ltd. This is, I guess, due to pressure from Mobility World of Harrow who have had their reputation tarnished by Sharon Clarke, [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT] etc who run these Leeds bed companies.

I have changed the thread title - hopefully it will show up web searches. Here is the link to the Beds Council website:

    As reported in Bedford Today:

    http://www.bedfordtoday.co.uk/news/Crooked-salesman-preyed-on-elderly.3642549.jp
  • will the journalist who rang me today 17.01.08 and left a voicemail please ring me back as soon as possible
  • My great aunt got conned buying ome of these beds when she was 90 years old it was December 2005 and taken to the bank by the sales man and drew a bankers draft. She lived at Barton On Sea Near New Milton. She now lives in a home near me in Barnsley South Yorkshire and is 92 now.She thought the sales man was a friend of her father.I handed everything to trading standards in Barnsley and reported to trading standards when the purchased happen.Over two years later after leaving it with the trading standard hands and phoning once and twice a month on its progress I finally get to speak to the lady at trading standards Barnsley yesterday to be told that she had posted everything back to me in September 2007 (which I never received) as thecompany which was QOL Ltd had wound up so that was that.I looked on the London Gazette to find out that this was done Wednesday November 7th 2007 and a Mr Swindell had been nominated the liquidator!.I feel my aunt has been let down by trading standards even though I had power of attomey and she had dementia. The bed is now in storage as its too big to go into her room all trading standards lady said put it in free adds I said it was only about £50 as its rubbish and I would not show my self up people comming to look at it.I know that I have drwan a blank with QOL Ltd now but does anyone think that I could do anything with trading standards as I feel they did not do their job correctly where should i go from here?

    Ms Thompson

I have sent you a pm (personal message) - click on 'private message' near the welcome bar. I would like to email you to discuss this company.

They are truly despicable - your's is a very familiar story and very typical of their actions. They basically close and reopen under another name precisely to avoid prosecution by Trading Standards or to avoid paying out to claimants through the Small Claims Court.

Powermatic was voluntarily liquidated, the same people reopened as [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT] (cashing in on a genuine company's name), they then changed the name to More Than Mobile (again a copy of a genuine company's name). They are all run from the same offices, same 'phone numbers, same people - namely [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT] call centre run by Sharon Jones (disqualified director of previous Leeds bed companies). They get relatives or employees to act as directors and secretaries to avoid being linked with the company themselves - currently [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT]'s nephew is listed as a director.

I would suggest you write to Trading Standards and ask for an account of their dealings with this company. I also strongly suggest you write to Watchdog, your MP, and Ed Balls MP (who is aware of this company operating in his area), and Companies Investigation branch of the Insolvency Service. I am very sorry to hear of your story because I know what distress this will have caused you. There are sadly hundreds, perhaps thousands, of other victims like yourselves - this company have no conscience and really do not care.

Beany, I have sent you a personal message. Anyone else who considers they have been conned or harrassed by this company please send me a personal message - I am always happy to help others who have suffered from these, in my opininon, criminals.

Nice story in the Yorkshire Evening Post about a gang of West Yorkshire criminals who targetted the elderly and conned them out of thousands in a damp proof course scam:

  • I bought my mother one of these powermatic beds and it is marvellous! It cost £3200 and i would have paid double that for the benefits that she has gained from it, she is 74 years old and is now acting like shes 44! Her blood pressure has gone down to nearly normal now and the circulation in her legs is improving. I originally thought that it was expensive but my mother was in so much pain, i would have done anything to help her and ease her suffering. I think the bed is worth every penny i dont know if this is the same company that we are talking about but everybody i dealt with in the company was polite, courteous and provided a great service to my mother, even down to delivery by taking away her old bed. Maybe you should speak to your uncle and try and resolve it as i don't think that the comnpany targets elderly people its just the people who would benefit from them.

IS THIS ONE OF THE SO CALLED COMPANY DIRECTORS? YOU MUST BE IN ON THE CON! ARE YOU PAID £6.00 AN HOUR TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
