They have just sent a shocking letter to my mother, offering to take over the warranty for her bed from recently liquidated Craftmatic, at the same time advising her not to talk to any other companies claiming to offer the same service. Of course, they'll charge a 'nominal fee' for this and need to visit to inspect the bed. There is no address on the letter and they don't answer the 0800 number.
I'm very worried my mother will receive a visit from fraudsters very soon. Not content with getting her the first time, they're gearing up to do it again. She is not streetwise enough to handle this.
Should I call the police? Or what?
PLEASE urge her not to have any dealings with them -if someone persists ask her to tell them that a family member deals with things for her and to give her your number.
I have just done a search for this company as I found out my Gran had been contacted by the takeover company to say her warranty through craftmatic was no longer valid and if she booked a service they would take over the warranty for her.
Hoever they THEN told her that craftmatic had fitted the wrong mattress (!) and that she could have the proper one at a discount price. She believes anything people tell her and she paid them nearly £600 for everything.
We have BEGGED her time and time again to pass these cold callers onto us, or to just say 'no thanks' but so far she has been conned for a new kitchen, windows, boiler and even a guy at thedoor offering to cut her hedges for the 'bargain' price of £150 (council does it for £30!) its still being run by damien o reilly and his son damien and amanda goor and lorraine obrien i welcomed the judgement banning them from being directors of another company but the way they get round that is by asking friends, family and employees to be a director in name only
there is another company in leeds doing the same thing
Keeps telling me that AMANDA calls him trying to arrange another visit and a man damian came with mattress. He still thinks they're genuine thank god for the internet now ive found out the past history to show him. why are these people so well known about still allowed to operate? BE WARNED the card payment went to EASYNIGHTS LIMITED another new company same people.0 -
I am so sorry to hear of your distress. Contact Trading Standards through Consumer Direct immediately:

I am sure West Yorkshire Trading Standards will be interested to hear about your case. Amanda Goor, Damian O'Reilly and Lorraine Bryan are banned as directors so should not be involved in running any company.
You can return any item up to 7 days after delivery for a refund, but even if this was some time ago I would get on to Trading Standards about it. If he paid by credit card I would also get on to the cc company.
Has he had any dealings with Express Healthcare UK (provide carers etc) as this company is run by the same people? - Damian O'Reily is the sole shareholder.

This is the link between Powermatic, Express Heathcare UK Ltd, Made to Measure, and Easynights Ltd:
The director of Easynights Ltd is Steven Capstick. I am guessing 10 Pinder Street, Leeds is his home address, not an office, as it's area of terraces and ex-council houses.
Tracy Foy Capstick was one of the many directors of Express Healthcare UK Ltd. It has had about 7 directors since set up in 2009. The address she gave is 10, Pinder street.
Express Healthcare UK Ltd is the new company which according to the YEP is being run by banned Powermatic directors Amanda Goor, Lorraine Bryan, and Damian O'Reilly.
http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/Banned-Leeds-boss-is-back.6261986.jp
Amanda Goor's new company is called Made to Measure.
If you google Easynights Ltd it comes up with a list of Direct Sales Consultants job adverts - some based in Chesterfield, which of course where Express Heathcare also have a base according to their website.
I hope Catherine Gale who is the most recent 'Director' of Express Healthcare - she was previously an employee - is fully aware of a directors responsibilities. And of course, she is the one that the Insolvency Service Companies Investigation Branch will be talking to first, if it does turn out that banned directors are running 'her' company from behind the scenes.
Can I ask that new posters to this thread add on to the new threads on Express Healthcare UK Ltd or Easynights Ltd instead of this one? Thanks.0 -
Hello all I was wondering if you could help.
I have a similar story about my nan. She is 91 years old and received a phone call two weeks ago from a company called 'Dream well'. Again this is a Leeds company based at Joseph's Well. They visited her yesterday the lady called Elaine (who is based in south of England) stayed for about 3 hours. She spoke of the product helping her circulation etc and also asked for her prescription taking her medical information - she said this was due to her not having to pay VAT. My nan gave her bank card details and permission for her to take £500 out of her account as a deposit. She sold her a wave pad 3 inch product for £1750.
We found out on the evening the lady had visited however after speaking with the bank first thing this morning the money had been authorised.
I will be cancelling the order Monday however i have read that a lot of people have not had refunds etc. We have a cancellation notice but I do not hold out much hope. Will also be contacting trading standards.
Has anyone else heard of this company?
Thanks0 -
You can cancel within 7 days of receiving goods ordered in your own home FROM THE DATE OF RECEIPT, not from the date of order. This does not apply to specially made goods, but I doubt these pads are specially made, even if they say they are.
Write a registered delivery letter to them asap - cancel the order and ask for a full refund within 7 days.
I would also contact West Yorkshire Trading Standards through Consumer Direct - ring and someone will call you back.

Are you saying your nan meant for them to rake a £500 deposit and they took the full amount? I would get on to the bank and ask them to make sure no other amounts are taken.
It is clear to me that this is pressure selling of the worst kind - 3 hours in the home of a 91 year old telling her the product will cure her ills?
She should have had documents/contract telling her her rights - that she can cancel etc. If not that is again against consumer laws.
You really must persevere with this with Trading Standards as some companies may count on people being too old, too ill, or simply not being able to face up to the fight to get a refund.
Contact Watchdoog as well - they keep records of every company named to them and may well be interested.

hi i am in the mobillty bussiness the product a lot of you are refering to is a therapy unit pure sleep is also still trading in scotland and a company called healthy days has purchased all the old contracts to re sell
the tatics they use
are cold calling to do a survey first then to book for a free demonstation which may lead to a sale the bussiness seems to have a bad repuation so anyone who has or bought from puresleep or healthy days pls do msg me i still am in the bussiness making calls and booking appointments but everyone needs to put food and money in the house right...
what i do isnt wrong
people do need these products0 -
If anyone genuinely needs a mobility product, I suggest they visit a shop or ask a friend, social worker etc for assistance. Do not make an appointment for a home visit unless someone will be there with you.
There are genuine companies out there - but the ones with which this thread is concerned are not genuine companies. They are sham companies set up to run for a year or so, close, start up again, and so on. Which is why they have been in trouble with Trading standards, the Insolvency Service, and the Inland Revenue, for claiming that their products are exempt from VAT.
"everyone needs to put food and money in the house right...", - well I guess how you earn your living is a matter for your own conscience, but you are ill advised to come onto MSE offering 'advice' when you seem to be admitting to being in the same cold-calling, pressure-selling to the elderly business.0 -
This Daily Mirror Article contains a "family tree", which explains how these various companies are interlinked. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
