I notice that the MD of Puresleep hasn't replied again yet......with any luck he will be too busy dealing with the receivers (as long as they have sent the refunds out).:T
  • Sorry its taken me so long to reply, but we have now received our refund, cheque was cashed 18th Oct. The final comment from the MD with the chq was " If you choose to believe the BBC rather than ourselves may I wish you the best of health"! Not quite sure why he had to put that, maybe the stress of all those refunds!!

It doesn't even make sense lol :rotfl: Perhaps he was having a bad day?

Glad you got your money (eventually!)

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."

I should think he was having a very bad day cosidering that his 'alleged' dirty tactics had just been rumbled on national TV.

I can remember watching a similar program about Craftmatic (I think it was either Watchdog or Rogue Traders) a couple of years ago claiming that they used similar tactics. Does anyone know if they have now cleaned up their act?

I am pretty sure that Welshbird07 is someone from Powermatic, Toots.

[TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT]. If you saw these 'beds' (they are just mattress 'toppers' really) you would see that in no way could they do anyone any good - Welshbird07 only made one other post and hasn't posted since, so I think we can assume it is a bogus posting.

Good to know that this thread worried them enough to make a fake posting though, isn't it?

I have been contacted by employees of Powermatic and other Leeds bed companies which were put into liquidation by the DTI like this one:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/investigates/2005/01/20/purecall-and-city-centre-calls-89520-15094974/

They said that they were asked to be 'directors' in name only so that actual people behind the company could not be linked with it. Of course, if you were to be the subject of charges by Trading Standards or the DTI or even struck off as a director, maybe ending up unable to get a loan or mortgage, you may wonder how wise you were to allow yourself to be named as director or secretary while the real people behind it go free.
  • My mum did a prize draw and then they phoned and asked could they call to see her. A "mr Banjo" a black guy turned up with a plant and a cream cake. She couldnt get rid of him and ended up signing up for a bed, chair and scooter. They refused to cancel it when i phoned, i got in touch with Age Concern and theywere very good and got it cancelled for her.

As far as I know, Powermatic only do 'beds', so that may have been a different company. Well done for getting on the case and getting it cancelled. I hope you informed Trading Standards even though you got your money back.

I have been reading all the postings on this website with great interest, and looks as if they have struck again in Swindon, Wiltshire on Friday 16th November 2007, [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT] sent a Sales Person (If you can call him that) to an elderly relatives house (he is 87 years old and recently diagnosed with a debilating illness). This phone call came from the head office/call centre based up in Leeds. And guess what used to trade previously as Powermatic Adjustable Beds, and linked to [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT]. Her name came keeps coming up linked to these unscrupulous companies. The sales man apparently was a lovely chap according to gramp, who was ever so polite, went through the types of material of these mobility chairs, even took his debit card from him and wrote down all his bank details and talked him into ordering a mobility chair. And when the sales person left he apparently/alledgely did not leave any paperwork, business card or any contact details. Another member of the family went straight to the house following gramps conversation with him about his new wonderful chair that would help with all his ill health problems. This visit was within 30 minutes of the sales man leaving the house, the family member turned the house upside down looking for this paperwork. The family managed to stop the transaction going through, but unfortunatley this lovely company then went for the money a second time, and for some reason the bank allowed the money to leave gramps account (this is another matter we are dealing with). We did have a name of the company from gramp and it was [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT]. Please do not mistake this company for that of Mobility World Ltd, as has happened in the past. They currently have a Fraud Alert on their website about this awful company with advice on what to do next. And our family members have had several conversations with the decent company. Mobility World Ltd are working with Companies House and a form of lawyers and are taking legal action against them !!!! And they have been more the helpful with our situation.Back to [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT]. When we actually did manage to contact someone from [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT], we tried to cancel the order on several occasions, but guess what surprise, surprise they were not contactable and the phone had a fault so the business and was not not able to take incoming calls. So the only way to contact them was under the pretext we wanted to order some mobility aids. A request was emailed to the business [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT] by my sister, my sister then had a response within about 1 hour. Imagine there shock when we disclosed what the real reason for the response was. Lets just say they were not happy in the slightest, but they did offer up the name of the person that visited gramp. His name is Paul Close, (not sure if I should name him, but what the hell) and guess what we know this person, how fortunate/unfortunate is that!!! What has followed is absolutely disgusting. Mr Close has explained that he did leave the signed paperwork in the house with Gramp, when asked why another copy has not been sent out, we got no answer. He (Mr Close) has called family members liars. We have spent several heated telephone conversations with him, which has also included one friend who has sided with Mr Close, when questioned would you accept this type of sales to your own grandfather the response was "we're not talking about that, thats a different thing alltogether". He has rang my sister and said that she is lying stating that he knows we are not sisters, again misinformed as we are!!! I got his new mobile number through asking someone a question about a potential bit of business I may have for him. (Didn't explain what the business was and didn't even ask for his contact number that was offered to me). This just shows how hungry they are for the sale!!! If they are a reputable business what is the problem of having his work number!!!On advice of Trading Standards we have sent a recorded letter to the business stating we want a full refund, and that by not leaving the paperwork with the sale of goods they are committing a criminal offence. It has been delivered as we have proof, but guess what still no response.Following a rather heated discussion from Mr Close on Tuesday 26th Nov he told a friend he would cancel the order, as it was too much hassle. Now this phone call took place about 8.30 in the evening after meeting the friend in the pub - sort of tells you the way he operates on a professional basis. All he kept saying was "what had he down wrong?" The fact that he has moved in on a vulnerable elderely gentleman has nothing to do with it in his mind. When explained to Mr Close that gramp has a alzheimers disease, Mr Close said "he seemed of sound mind to him", to which point he was asked what his medical background was to back up this statement, because as far as I was concerned I didn't think Mr Close had any medical training. To which again he became aggresive and shouting down the phone. I did respond to Mr Close by telling him I thought what he did for a living by praying on vulnerable elderly people, was disgusting and that he was the lowest of the low. Things get a bit personal when family are involved. It was explained that Paul Close would cancel the order, but that the company may still go through with the sale, and looks like that is what they are trying to do. This is further discussions with Mr Close which have been very aggresive, and he is on holiday now!!! As a family we have decided we will not let up the pressure on this business and have liaised with the police, trading standards, watchdog and are also seeking legal action. You name it we are going to do it. These companies should not be able to operate. We are still at the point were we have not had the money back, apparently we are trying to cancel after the 7 day cancellation period has expired, but if we have not got the paperwork, how are we supposed to know this. Hopefully this little error may trip them up. Mr Close was very surprised that I knew about Powermatic Adjustable Beds and [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM FOLLOWING COMPLAINT], and that Powermatic Adjustable Beds are alledgley in the hands of receivership and creditors are currently meeting, but I to have some very informative contacts who depise companies who operate in this underhand manner. If anyone has had any luck and can advise us with our next steps, just wondering if we could get another investigation going in to them and naming and shaming them. Please let me know, or if you have had any similar experiences and how you are progressing
