£1 London Hotel Rooms
Comments

I managed to book a £1 room - I don't know how. My experience in terms of the screens I saw seems to have been different to everyone else's. I had a screen where I entered dates, number of rooms, etc, then clicked OK and after a search I was shown a screen offering me a rate. I was offered the £59 for ages, and kept going back, and hitting OK again, until, just as I was about to give up, a £1 room came up!
Thank you very much to the OP and to everyone's advice. It's for a Saturday in June and I am excited beyond words!
I am however a ltitle itchy cos I haven't had the confirmation email yet. Is anyone else in the same position?
I just called the hotel and they said it might take up to 48 hours, but I'm paranoid we're not going to get it cos we asked for a travel cot (although now we are actually thinking of going on our own and making the most of it...)0 -

Yes, there are lots of Indian restaurants on Brick Lane and just off it. I haven't been in a couple of years but, although even then people would moan on about how it was not how it used to be blah blah, I always found it very good and very cheap. BYO though.
The Turkish restaurant area I know of is Green Lanes, quite far up North. Manor House on the Piccadilly Line?
If you're going for a weekend I recommend you visit Columbia Road Flower Market early on Sunday morning - it is great fun and reasonably near The Hoxton. There's also Spitalfields Market but I'm told that's also 'not how it used to be' - the market to go to now (also near The Hoxton) apparently is Broadway Market off Hackney Road.0 -
Panic over! It was in my Junk Mail.0

From the photos on the site it looks like you hang a paper bag on the door and in the morning they fill it with a few small things from Pret. Anyone confirm, sounds brill:rotfl:0
-
Yes you are right you get a Light Pret Breakfast which they hang on your door in the morning and contains a freshly squeezed OJ, a Granola Yoghurt pot and a Banana.
Yum!

We are going again at Easter, taking the kids to see Razorlight and the blue men group!!ACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0 -
Arghhh nuts!
I was there waiting from 4.30 and was about to give up when the rooms came up about 5.10 / 5.15 so then tried to grab one but got all those website errors that everyone's already reported.
Well done anyone who managed to get a room!
Let us hope that the level of service provided by the hotel when full isn't as bad as the website performed yesterday!0 -
We have just returned from a £29 stay at The Hoxton - last night - we also stayed there last year for £1 with the first offer. We managed to get the adjoining rooms (double + twin) 326 and 328 for £29 each, so that was a good deal. Unfortunately the stay was somewhat marred by the rude awakening at around 4.30am by the fire alarms set off by some idiot who was smoking in his room! The fire brigade arrived as well!
What was doubly annoying was that it transpired that the hotel has the facility to send a phone message to all rooms saying that there is no need to evacuate the building...but didn't use it - hence people all over the place trying to find out what was going on...
Then our breakfast bags (ordered for 8am) did not arrive and when they did had water in them instead of orange juice and missing bananas from some...it took 3 phone calls to get the bags and then what was missing brought up to our rooms...
The receptionist's attitude to this was not particularly apologetic or explanatory (and it should not matter how much you have paid for the room!) - the manager when told about the breakfast fiasco admitted that the hotel is not often fully booked and as it was Valentine's night the staff had not ordered enough of the breakfast items, so had to go out to local shops to buy extra juice, etc - the water was so that there was some form of drink provided...on the plus side, we did very much enjoy the yummy heart-shaped chocolate truffles in glass bowls on the reception desk the day before!
Having said all that, we still like the hotel and enjoyed our stay in London - the hotel is only a 10 minute walk to the Old Street Tube Station and a 15 minute tube journey (one change) from Covent Garden. You can walk to lots of interesting places from the hotel as well - the Comedy Cafe is very near, for example, and several Asian restaurants. The Monument and Tower Bridge are a pleasant walk away (you can buy combined entry and get BOGOF with train tickets). Spitalfields Market is also nearby and has different stalls on different days. Borough Market is across London Bridge and great for food lovers! Brick Lane Market is on Sundays. The worst day to stay is probably Friday night as on Saturday the local area is dead. The hotel reception has some good little maps of the local area and will tell you how to get to wherever you want to go.
Although we were staying there we could not book the cheap rooms from this new promotion and despite there being Internet access in the hotel, felt that we preferred to go out to staying in just to book another stay! Congrats to those who got a good deal and have a great stay! :T0
