I asked a question about baby monitors on here before. Well, I think we're going to go for a breathing monitor instead. I think for me it's between Babysense and Snuza (lots of good reviews on Amazon.com). Does anyone have one of these? They're approx. the same price as Angelcare with a breathing mat but I read that the mat can only be used until about 4mths when the baby starts moving in bed. The two breathing monitors I'm looking at will last much longer than 4mths. What do you think about these?

I have the Angelcare and also a Respisense which is similar to a Snuza (paranoid mummy!). I chose the Respisense over the Snuza because I wanted it for long car journeys, and the Snuza said it couldn't be used while moving in the car or pram. The Respisense has one light for regular movements, and another for irregular ones, so if the regular one is flashing I know it's more likely to be breathing than car movement.

I would say though, the clip on type monitor is a bit of a faff, and would probably scare the life out of me in the middle of the night with false alarms as it can lose connection with their tummy. It is meant to clip to the nappy, which means undressing them to get to it properly. In the car I just clip it to his trousers, but then it doesn't always stay in contact. On the other hand, the Angelcare I just plonk him on the mat, flip the switch and walk away. I've not had a false alarm yet except when I pick him up without turning it off. :oD It usually then picks up the vibration of me running across the room to shut it up, and stops beeping. So I don't know if it'll pick him up still even if he rolls off it? It is good too that it has a little light, so in the dark you can just open your eyes and see it is still flashing.

Oh, and sometimes the Angelcare with just the breathing sensor is quite a lot cheaper than the one with sound, think I paid about £40? I then decided I needed a sound monitor too and bought a cheap Angelcare one on ebay. It was a new but unboxed one, the manufacturer was selling off a load of old spares. When it arrived, it had a hole in the back that I could plug my sensor pad into and use it for sound and movement.

Haven't even tried re-latching her in a few days - just seems no point as she gets frustrated, I get upset and frustrated and then it ends up with me in a sobbing heap on the sofa... it's like the last part of how I planned everything to crumble completely - the birth went to hell, her early weeks went to hell and the feeding is almost at hell.

Sorry if i'm suggesting obvious stuff that you'll have already done, but have you tried lots of skin to skin contact at a time when she's already been fed and so isn't desperate to get it quickly? Not trying to force it, but just holding her and seeing what happens? If she's content already, there's no pressure and if nothing else you get a lovely cuddle and some bonding time, which i'm sure you need after that awful hospital! :)

I just had to do 2 weeks living on a maternity ward... know that saying about hell is other people... well when you're stuck next to some idiot who is on their mobile phone (outgoing AND incoming calls - invariably with some form of obnoxious ringtone) all night, when there's a room full of babies ALL screaming at once, when some filthy filthy mare's left their bled all over maternity towel in the shower (which resembles a murder scene anyway with all the blood people shed) and when there's scratchy school loo roll (or no loo roll for 2 days) and stitches are concerned... and that's BEFORE visiting time when everyone's entire circle of friends descend and make a racket, just as you're trying to catch up 2 seconds of sleep from the sleepless night... and if you stand in the same spot for more than 10 seconds someone will offer you drugs or to check your stitches.

Oh and if you're in overnight the labour suite team are incapable of bringing anyone up to the ward quietly - they do it in some kind of stage whisper quiet which makes more racket than it would do if they did it at normal volume... usually banging into your furniture through the curtains as they go, bonus points if they can drag the armchairs across the floor and make a really loud obnoxious scraping sound.

Maternity wards tend to drive everyone bonkers very rapidly - my sanity hasn't yet recovered.

This is why I'm paying for a single room if I have to stay in. During the actual labour and birth I'll be in a single room with the OH with me, but the post-natal ward is four to a room. Sod that! I'm paying my £80 for a bit of peace and quiet. I can't bear the thought of sharing a room with anyone - it's not Guide camp!

  • Morning all!
    Hope everyone is well.
    Has anyone heard from Natwesty?
Scan was lovely. He's one naughty boy though, looking away from the camera etc. they got all the measurements they needed and all looks good. We did see his skinny little face and he saw his lips which are gorgeous! And what looked like his teeth there too. We're all finished by nine o'clock so OH had time to drop me home before work which was nice. Will rest for a couple of hours to make up for last nights lack of sleep.
The sun is looking lovely, is not as warm as it looks though, very windy here so is chilly. Wrap up warm :)

gosh this thread moves extreemly quickly! good luck Charlie on your induction :)
LMM- I hope you have a good scan and manage to get lots of nice piccies :D

I hope everyone is ok and had a good weekend.
I'm now officially 37 weeks and I have given baby her eviction notice today lol I'm feeling a lot brighter in myself and have done since last Tuesday really. I think alot of the problem was feeling completely out of control and not being able to go anywhere or do anything. My dad has been a godsend and taken me places and it's made such a difference :) also Dan has moved back into bed with me so i don't feel neglected anymore :)
My parents have also bought me a cot bed (only £10  ) one of my mums friends was getting rid of it, it was hardly ised as it was for over night stays at grans. It's not the poshest of ones but It's good quality and sweedish :) Dan has to fetch it tonight and then start the process of swapping furniture around in the spare room. the elder kids wardrobe and drawers are in their so need to come out, and then the cot needs to go in. Only problem is that it will have to be used as a play room too, as I can't fit furniture/toys in the elder kids room it aint that big! eek!

sending out big labour vibes to those that need them!! x
