Good morning
Happy I had a shock last night after I decided to see what my weight had been doing since becoming pregnant. My friend lost weight and had a low birth weight baby so wanted to make sure I'd put something on. I wasn't a happy bunny though - I've put on 7kg so over a stone with 8 weeks left to go. I've never really watched my weight but I've never weighed so much so was shocked. My OH calmed me down and told me to not be silly as I am pregnant so have the weight of baby and associated stuff to carry about. I guess this is another reason to breastfeed
Emsbet I wouldn't worry too much about sleeping solely on your left side. I generally switch between the two and my midwife just said not to sleep on my back or front (I'd find it very hard to do either now anyway).
In terms of 10 movements a day, I've been asked whether I get 10 movements a few times by midwifes/obstetrician and have always just said yes. I decided a few weeks ago to actually count and gave up after 25
I think the best advice I've been given is to be aware of your baby's pattern of movements and if he starts to move less to contact the maternity unit just to check he's OK.
Natwesty I hope you some reassurance regarding your ALT results. At least they can be prepared if it is something.
It's our last antenatal class tonight. I'm not sure what they're going to cover nor whether I'm going to remember anything from the classes by the time baby arrives but it's been good going.
Now I need it to stop raining so I can go into town - it wears me out enough without getting soaking wet as well
Have a good day everyone0 -

I thought they'd stopped advising you to 'count kicks' as it does just this - promotes anxiety. Instead you're told to just 'be aware of baby's movements'. If everything feels normal to you, then it is (bearing in mind that my little wriggler has active days and quieter days)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Thanks ladies, I feel better about not always sleeping on my left side.
Just had a nosebleed while trying to eat my breakfast, didn't really go well with my cereal!
Re movements, I was told by my midwife that you don't need to count/keep track until 28 weeks. I've read this in quite a few places too.
I really need to book my antenatal classes soon. The midwife told me to book them at 20 weeks. I did think I might do it this week but I came over all superstitious so I've decided to wait until Tuesday

Morning ladies
I have skimmed the last few days, but pretty much caught up. Congrats to new arrivals and labour vibes to the boldies!
Re the left side thing, my What to Expect book says it is better for your circulation (which if I remember from biology lessons is probably right as your aorta comes out on your left side ). I just do what feels comfortable though. At 31 weeks there is no way I can sleep on my back now and I usually sleep on my right side although I couldn't the other night as I was getting pins and needles in my right arm (there might be something to the circulation thing!). Sometimes I feel like lying on the left is crushing the baby a bit though as he tends to kick more if I roll over onto my left...
Apparently nosebleeds are quite common in pregnancy - my friend is 4 weeks ahead of me and getting them regularly. Her midwife said not to worry about them.
On the movement issue, my book says (at my stage) you should be getting 10 an hour (but to be honest I go a couple of hours at a time (especially when I am moving around a lot) not feeling much at all). He has a routine though - likes to boot me to sleep and boot me hello in the morning. When I am vegging out in the evening, sproglet kicks off good and proper (I feel like an extra in the Alien movie sometimes:rotfl:). I was told by my midwife at my 16 week appointment that I should be worried if I wasn't feeling any movement daily and I thought that was pretty stupid of her to say that as I wasn't feeling anything at the time. I was around the 20 week mark I think before I could positively say the baby was moving at times.
I would book antenatal classes soon Emsbet (totally understand why you would put those off, but they do get oversubscribed in some places).

Have a nice shopping trip LMM. I'm painting more doors today. Also got to wash the bedding for the spare room ready for our relay of visitors at the weekend.
I'm wondering about the sleeping on your left side advice. I'm trying as much as possible to sleep on my left side but my hips are so sore that I can't go all night without turning over. I'm trying to do most of the night lying on my left then a couple of hours on my right but I feel guilty especially as I lie on my right when I lie on the sofa. What's everyone else doing?
xx
There is no way I would sleep on the same side all night long. It is better now, but few weeks ago, if I spent more than an hour on one side, my hips would so sore, it fel like the circulation in the 'upper' leg was almost non existent and the cramps were regular guests in one leg. I am pleased to say, that cramps subsided, fingers crossed. At my last scan I was told that babies are perfectly average - both of them, and the average by singleton, so I think my sleeping on either side, and sometimes on the back for a bit, didn't do much harm. I think it is more important you get good rest, as then your body can function better and support the baby better.
Had cereal, still hungry... Wll try a cup of (herbal) tea and some biscuits. Not the healthiest choice!
I am 32 weeks today, so happy to get to this stage. Yesterday in the class there was a lady next to me whose cousin (or was it a friend) gae birth to twins at 33 weeks. Hope it is not going to be me! I am still just betting quotes for cloakroom refurbishment!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Like gin says, it doesn't matter about your position as long as you're comfy. As someone who's suffering when lying on her back, trust me, you'll know if your circulation's being compromised! If you feel fine and you're not breathless, then that's because you are fine."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Me too! I too go for a couple of hours at a time without feeling anything, but that's always been the case so it doesn't worry me.
Re sleeping positions, I always start off on my left hand side, with my long pillow under my bump and between my knees. However, I nearly always wake up on my back! Also, I often wake up in the night with pain in my hips/back, in which case I find it more comfortable to fold my big pillow in half, and use it to prop myself up into a reclined position on my back, and sleep the rest of the night like that. I asked the midwife about it and she said as long as it's comfortable, and that I'm not getting breathless or pins and needles/numbness in that position, then it's fine. Better than not getting any sleep!
I'm off work sick today, woke up with a bad headache and sinus pain, plus I'm knackered after yesterday. I hate how I get so worn out these days, I'm used to being fit and healthy and rushing around! DH keeps telling me to relax and do nothing, but I get bored and keep looking around at all the things I could be doing!
It's so lovely to hear from happy, goppers and glimmer, don't go away ladies! It sounds like you're loving being new mummies, and I can't wait to join you

Hi guys,
I too alternate which side I sleep on purely as each side gets uncomfortable after a while... I have never been able to sleep on my front or back even pre-pregnancy!
Congrats Goppers lovely name
Happydays77 Glad Callum is adjusting well to being a big brotherHow long were you in hospital in the end?
I had a great nights sleep last night but have woken up feeling absolutely exhaustedNot great as I have loads to do today... 32 weeks exactly today and am getting fairly freaked out by the fact that bumpy will be here in 7 weeks (c-sec at 39 weeks)...
If I don't manage to get on again today - Good luck tomorrow Laura2522 From what I recall, the op only takes about 1/2 hour or so so at this time tomorrow you should be getting cuddles
Also, re. movements, was told 10 per hour too but the midwife who told me that also said it is not always reasonable to expect baby to move that much and a lot of it depends on the position baby is lay in - if he/she has turned into your back and is kicking there you won't necessarily feel the kicks. She advised me to try to pinpoint a (rough) routine the baby normally follows and go off that so as not to panic unnecessarily.. Hope that makes sense
Hope all ok,
Jovi x0
