Glad your husband was able to do a feed Dizzi. Do you have any idea how long you will both be in hospital for? Thanks to the ladies about suggestions for husbands/partners extending time off work - very helpful to know.

Just come back from midwife appointment, little munchkin measuring spot on for dates and lovely strong heartbeat :) I knew the midwife who was on today as we used to go to same slimming world class, lovely lady. I told her I was going to buy an excerise ball soon and she said that the local children's centre had recently had a massive clear out and had three brand new labour/excerise balls still in boxes and to get myself down there straight after my appointment - so I did and now have a lovely free ball waiting to be pumped up :j

  • Also, slightly odd question, has anyone noticed their eyebrows thinning as pregnancy goes on? Mine seem to be lighter and less well... eyebrowy lol might not be related, I will ask midwife tomorrow when I see her but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

I've had that too with my eyebrows jovi - I think it's cos when I was first pregnant, the skin under my eyebrows became very dry and flaky, and when I rubbed them, the eyebrows were falling out too. My skin can't seem to make up its mind what it's going to be - it's dry now with lots of spots and blackheads in places I never had them before. I'm having a facial at the college on Wednesday (the supervisor knows I'm pregnant so will probably be watching the student doing it very carefully), so hopefully this will calm everything down. Had my legs waxed there today too (£7), so I'm hopefully going to be able to wear some of my jersey dresses or skirts as I no longer resemble a wildebeest. lol
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Jovi - my eyebrows seem to be getting thicker if anything! :D Generally getting more hairy all over - pregnancy is sooooo attractive! :D

Cot mobiles: we have one that came with the complete nursery set we got from ebay ('my favourite things' from babies r us) It isn't very exciting though - last week DH picked up a brand new one from a car boot sale which is much more colourful/bright and plays music. We'll see which one is better once the cot (and little man!) arrives

  • Am glad I am not the only one :) I do have eczema and this has been much worse since start of pregnancy, skin on my face is very dry and the cream I have is not recommended for facial use so have been applying moisturiser throughout day at regular intervals :o Just hope it improves after bubs born, at the moment I am having to fill in bits of eyebrow with pencil :o

We were looking at this one http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_41_10751_-1_14732_140947_10001_14053 but the reviews put me off :o

The hair loss seems to be concentrated only on my eyebrow area, not anywhere useful like my legs where growth seems to have increased :o

*hugs for Gin*I managed to miss your post when looking through this morning. Sorry you're having such trouble with your MIL.

Is your OH going to be on paternity leave after the birth? If so then surely your OH can point out to his mother that you need at least a week to yourselves as a new family before being inundated by family, however well meaning?

One of the things my midwife suggested and which was suggested again at my antenatal classes was to tell people that your midwife has strongly advised against allowing anyone to visit in the first week because you'll need your rest and time to bond with your babies. After that to limit visitors to a few hours at a time rather than allowing them to stay with you as you and baby need time to relax and rest. The general view of the midwife seemed to be that blaming everything on them gives you an out in which you can get time to yourselves.
Could this work with your MIL?

My OH has two weeks paternity leave booked so we're thinking that we'll restrict visitors for the majority of those two weeks and allow people to come after that as we'll have had time to get to grips with things and I'll be alone most of the day so having people around could be helpful.

You need to point out (or get your midwife/doctor to) to your OH that his main priority is to reduce your stress levels and look after you and baby and that his mother is not going to help that.
Are you going to antenatal classes? Our last class had a large section basically telling future daddies that one of their jobs after the birth was to field phone calls and limit visitors including politely turning people away if they turn up uninvited on the doorstep.

*hugs* hope it works out for you and your MIL doesn't cause too much stress.

Thank you for this. We agreed with OH early on that he will not take his paternity leaven the first days when I am likely to be in hospital. Instead he will use his holiday allowance for the birth and start paternity leave when we go home, or depending on bank holidays, he might take more annual leave first and paternity leave straight after. Then the plan was that I have a week in my own to try and get used for taking care of the babies on my own, and have some time just for us. I know it is going to be a hard work, and I will struggle, bu. Wan a chance to make my own mistakes and find my own ways to deal with challenges.

I can't limit her to few hours a day, as they live in Italy, o when they do come it is going to be for longer. OH wanted to push me to agree to three weeks, and I said no way, two is max. We don't get along, I find her too much, everything has to be as she wants and if you say no, she still does it her way. I wouldn't mind o much if they came just for a few hours in second week or so, but not full time!

We talked with OH before to get a 'book of suggestions/advice/etc', basically a notebook where people can right down their advice instead of repeating it to us (his mum has a great skill at no stopping when she finds a topic, can go on for hours!). So, bought a notebook today and going to make a label for the cover to as for things to be written down. I don't care anymore if OH thinks it might be rude, but this is one way I plan to fight against his mothe and protect my sanity from listening to her go on and on at how should do with the babies.

Mothers at birth - I never wanted mine to be there, and no way his mother would have been allowed anywhere near the hospital. If OH wasn't there, I'd rather be on my own. I thing his mother had it in her mind that she might be able to be there when sh told us she was thinking to come here in May. In her dreams.

Right, need to load the car and get to the skip. Need to empty some space in the garage and house.

Dizzi - firstly congratulations ! love the name erin, one of my friends little girl is called it and its such a pretty girly name !

I would echo what others have said and when you are ready write a letter to the hospital, your treatment was shocking and to then BLAME you is just outrageous

I had my 16 week midwife appt today - im 17+5 - and wont now be seen by them till 28 weeks  thats so long ! I would have thought being a high risk pregnancy I would have closer monitoring but there we go, what do i know

Hope the rest of you lovely ladies are having a nice start to the week

Mishkanorman, I find the monitoring of the pregnancy rather strange. I am expecting twins, so I see a consultant every 4 weeks. Only if it was the same person! Over 4 appointments I had 3 different consultants and 2 different midwives. I don't have a midwife 'assigned' to me, and if anything I need to call different hospital.

We loaded the big car with the junk from the garage, and I can't believe how much space appeared there! I think there is another load, will do it some other day, but it s a great start. I have managed to get the kitchen sorted a bit more, so I can now have a chair at the breakfast bar! Some more to sort out tomorrow before 12pm, and then leave the rest to the cleaners while I rest or go and sort the shed...
