I'm in Cheshire at the moment. Was in Staffordshire before but moved back closer to family when my life imploded.

  • Where are you?
Yes I'm within 10 mins of my family now so that is good. I have 2 brothers who are both married with children and I'm a bit like the black sheep of the family. It's a role I think I take on very well. It's amazing how even your family can be judgemental when situations aren't perfect.
I imagine you will have lots of visitors. Do they stay for a day or so or is it flying visits?

Is it normal to be looking at maternity leave and having to force myself to think "I'm not leaving this place, I'm just not coming here for a year?" I feel half like I do before I leave a job like, this is someone elses problem soon, but am struggling to let go of my responsibilities towards the place because I know I'll want to return in a year!

That probably makes no sense! I'm just feeling confused about how much I can reasonably be expected to do before I go I think! Ignore me, I feel better for writing it down anyway!

Isn't it strange just kind of passing time and waiting, can't imagine how you must be feeling emmy, knowing it'll be nine days is something that still seems surreal to me!
  • I think this is it starting!!!!

Been crampy most of last night, spent most of the day 'evacuating', sort of a crampy/dragging feeling in my bum cheeks every now and then, had not painful but 'hard' BH's most of the day that stopped me momentarily and starting to have lower back pain from about 4pm onwards.

About 7pm I got a mildly painful contraction, followed by another every 20 mins so hoping they will keep going on through the night.

My labours take a while to get in to full swing so not getting my hopes up too much, going to potter around the house finishing off the nappy washing and then have a bath before tesco delivers at 9pm, OH/that annoying guy isnt due back till about 11 but is easily contactable but the bedroom is a shh!t tip and everything is piled in our room from my cleaning frenzy.

  • Ravenlady - how exciting. Keep us updated and I hope everything goes well for you.
Anymo - I can't really comment as I work in a family business and so you never really leave properly. I'm sure once you leave and have your baby to look after it will be the last thing on your mind.

Oooh might be a leap-day baby (I've got twin cousins that were Feb 29th girls)! Good luck!

Forgot to mention the very bemused couple I met today in the hospital - they'd gone in for a dating scan after a miscarriage and wonky cycles... expected to be a few weeks or so - found they were 25 weeks along! Can't help but partly think that must have been such a blessing to cut out those early obsessional weeks where you've got no real indicators of things going right or wrong - but cripes - what a surprise!

Dizziblonde- thats lovely, my first pg was 9 weeks along before I realised and so much nicer then this time, knowing from the first possible momnet! Thanks for your advice re growing stuff on another thread.

Can I join in properly please? I am 16 +4 today, enormous already and already on the countdown to mat leave! I have a consultant appt on Thurs due to previous complications (leaky waters and placental abdruption) to find out what I can do. Hoping (if thats the right word) for VBAC, but trying not to think about things too much

Hope everyone is OK, I think I may go and raid some mini eggs- I don't like sweets or choc usually, but a right sweet/ sugar fiend now!
