  • All sounding very promising Emmylou, hope today is the day for you :)

Have been up since 5am this morning, is DS's 7th birthday and he is mega excited. We're off to Pizza Hut for tea tonight - am already getting excited about the prospect of the ice cream factory :o

Have been looking at buggies (again), we are on a tight budget at the moment - especially as work have not fully paid me yet - so we are looking at second hand. We were considering going to the next NCT sale but on the website for our local group, it says the next one is in October 2011 :rotfl:

Ginvzt: I know what you mean about wanting the house sorted fully before baby (or babies in your case ;)) arrive, I have plans for every room in the house except the bathroom :)

Labour vibes to all the boldies :)

Good to know I am not the only one!!!! We can't change kitchen now, and the bathrooms will stay as they are, and the study (just hpe OH will sort out 2 years worth of paperwork thrown around the room, so it looks more presentable)... and the main bedroom, even if it bugs me every day (would be a big job with electricians, plasterers, new wardrobes, etc - would take a while to complete and cost too much). The room downstairs shouldn't be too bad, it will need walls plastered, but ceiling is fine, and then it is painting, new flooring and new skirting boards - it is not too much, I would have thought, especially wince we already have paint, flooring (engineered wood) and the skirting boards!!!!! My idea is that we sort it out, move my piano int fishtank place (which has finally been sold on ebay, just waiting for it to be collected this week/end), and put a sofa in the room for extra guests to stay over, so we would have a room upstairs for the guests, and a place to sleep downstairs for when we have our 'get-togethers' (there are 3 couples of us that every so often we all get together, so no one would have to sleep on the floor).

Someone - please switch me off!!!!!! I will drive myself crazy with all this.

I am feeling a bit off today again - the pain in my bump is a bit worse today, it was hurting at night, and it is here today (I have told my consultant about this, it has been with me for probably 10+ weeks, and she is not bothered with it, as long as it is not a period like pain). It is always ion the same side, and makes painful to stand up/sit down, lay down, turn on the other side, and basically move!!!!!!!!

I have 3 days of holiday left before I finish, and I decided to take next Friday off (well, if my boss agrees). OH was asking what am I planning to do, and I said clean the house or sleep on the sofa, but the most important - not work!!!!! I think my nesting instinct is kicking in - is it a bit too early for that??? (25 weeks) I hope it is not a way my body is trying to tell me to hurry up as the babies might be here by Easter!!!!!!! (I would be 30-31 weeks by then, early, but feasible).

And I really need to get on with my seed sowing for the garden this year, I haven't got anything sown yet, and it is March on Thursday!!!!!

Next question - can anyone recommend a mattress for a cot bed? My OH and I are completely clueless so trying to gather information. So far it seems sprung mattresses are meant to be better? With a waterproof/breathable cover?

I got the Rochingham Moons and Stars one from boots when they had it on offer for about £56. Its a sprung one and rochingham make for silentnight too, its description was almost identical to the silentnight one I was looking at that was twice the price. Obviously haven't used it yet but it seems ok. I personally wanted a sprung one so its supportive enough to last as long as baby is in the cotbed, so potentially (hopefully!!) until maybe 4 or 5 years old. If you don't mind changing it at some point then a foam one should be ok for a baby but not meant to really be supportive enough once they get a bit bigger.

Just back from our scan appointment. Bowel is mildly echogenic but they don't seem too worried. Femur length is measuring in the third percentile (53mm at 31 plus 5) so have to o back again in 2 weeks. Ather measurements were near enough average. Baby is 3.3lbs

Sounds a bit more promising. With the femur being on the 3rd centile, just remember......some one has to be! That's what our consultant said to us. Fingers crossed it doesn't mean anything and nice to know you have another scan soon and they're keeping a good eye on you.

thegreenroom - do you know if the advice your midwife gave about swaddling is just from the local area or whether it's a NICE or NHS Evidence piece of guidance?

I was told the same at my parentcraft classes in a different area. i think it is nationwide advice now, its to do with overheating. the other thing they said was about needing a hat for hosp when they first pop out but once you're home you shouldn't use one in the house, again because of overheating.

Not been on for a few days and there was loads to catch up on!!!

Snoopy, glad you got sorted with your furniture, fingers crossed you get the £100!!

Ginvt, I need to get on with sowing some seeds too, I just can't be bothered yet!

All ok here I think. Baby has been very wriggly and all of a sudden you can now see my tummy moving loads. My next appointment isn't until next tuesday at the big hospital for a scan then an antenatal check at the local hospital the following week. It'll be 4 weeks since I've had an appointment which is the longest I've ever gone since being about 6 weeks!!!

I have 15.5 days left at work after today but spread over 4.5 weeks. Sooooo ready to finish now!
  • Hi All

Lisa - have you seen how quickly we are moving up that list....argggghhh

Well finally gave in and got doc to sign me off today, work are being a nightmare (if you didn't live in lincolnshire snoopy I would suspect we had the same employers! :rotfl:)
No to half days, no to antenatal classes (find ones o/s working hours), tough you have sore back and can you do allllll this before you leave although no-one has looked at in years! So signed off till next Tuesday and plan to finish the Friday after; problem is I am now bored and slightly hormanal and keep crying - maybe it is just the relief.

JenJade - thanks for the link will donate today; hope you Ellie and the rest of your family are OK, your strength through this seems amazing. x

Has anyone done the NHS parentcrafting classes we have 4 2hr classes - any idea what each one is roughly about OH can only make 2 so need to make sure he is at the labour ones!

    Thanks
    Glimmer

  • I have such a belly ache today!!

Just back from midwife, baby is just engaged the tiniest bit :( but the girls never engaged at all so not worried. I have a sweep booked for Sunday afternoon, and if nothing happens then induction for the end of next week, yay!!! Well, not yay to the induction, but yay to the end!!

Babys heartbeat was alot faster than normal today, and as he hasnt moved much since the contractions last night, she wants me to call the day unit at 4pm if baby is still quiet to go up to a trace. He is wriggly again right now, so hoping he stays like it!

    xx

  • Good to hear from you Lisa, I was wondering where you had gone :o I do think baby will just be on the small side like me. I think if there hasnt been much change at the next appointment they may induce me early :( Let us know how you get on next week xx

Glimmer, I started my NHS parentcraft classes on friday, we only have 2 2 hour sessions though!! I found it quite informative. The going round the room introducing ourselves aa style was a tad strange though lol! Had a look at a nice little flip chart that showed the opening sizes from normal right the way up to 10 cms, my goodness it stretches a lot  We have our final one this friday which will be about caring for a newborn.

Emmylou, hopefully you wont get as far as Sunday. We found out that our midwives wont do a stretch and sweep till 12 days past!!!
  • Emmylou - hope the belly ache is the start of something. How would you feel about a leap year birthday?

I like that attitude about the percentiles Lisa, I'm going to remember that as our LO seems to be measuring small but you're right, someone has to!

I'm loving our parentcraft classes, not NHS but not NCT either, just a local course, last week she surprised us by presenting us with 'babies' for changing with mustard and treacle lurking in the nappies to show us meconium and milk poops :D DH did really well as my back was too bad for me to get down on the floor to change it myself :rotfl:

Cannot wait to finish work, there are some tasks I used to just crack on with that my brain simply isn't up to and I'm forgetting really important stuff, I'm no good to anyone here but keep plodding on as there's no-one here to pick up the slack, still no cover arranged as we don't know what's happening with our funding from April!

I'm gonna have a bit of a moan now so skip if you don't feel like reading it.

Went to my second consultant appointment today. I didn't know why they hadn't referred me back to midwifery as I was only referred at 32 weeks because I was measuring large with a tape but when they scanned me everything was a normal size. Anyway, saw the most condescending registrar I have ever met (consultant on holiday) she told me its my fault that I measured large because I'm fat (okay she didn't actually say the words but she may as well have) and that even though I'm 36+3 I'm going to have a glucose test for gestational diabetes as it wasn't done earlier. I know they are just covering all the bases but it really feels to me like they are just covering their bums in case something later turns out to be wrong. So I'll go and do their annoying test on Friday when I will be 36+6.
On the plus side babies head is between my hips and from what she can feel facing the right way so I guess it was worth it just to know that. PPPLLLTTTT! to her. I hope I don't have to see her again because frankly she could do with some people skills.

  • Sounds like you met my registrar safesound. You are right, they are very condescending and it's like they want to find something onlabel you with cos you are larger. She keeps referring to my BMI as my condition whilst frowning at me. I just have to laugh it off otherwise I'd be tempted to ball at her. No need to apologise for ranting, far better than silently seething xx
