Oh gawd... my horrific toothache is back - paracetamol just isn't touching it, haven't slept all night and I know the dentist won't do anything if I get booked in to see her since I mentioned this tooth was niggly back when I was just pregnant. Hoping the flare up of pain fades but considering in the past this tooth's had me on every single painkiller combo possible and still screaming in pain - I doubt it.

With this and the SPD - I don't know if I can hack another three months of this to be honest - the pelvic pain's bad enough, toothache into the equation will finish me totally. Feeling pretty like I've hit a brick wall here now with pain and tiredness... yet I've got no right to complain really.

Go see ur Dr hun, ask for antibiotics. I had to do just that last Monday as I didnt sleep all weekend from toothache :( Also, I read the other day, that a dentist SHOULD do all normal dental work, unless u need referring to hosp. Ask to speak to practice manager if they refuse to do anything with u xx

    Afternoon All :)

Happy due date EmmyLou. Hope you dont have long to wait now!

Laura I hope all is well in your next scan.3.3lbs sounds a good weight :) xx

4 weeks left at work for me. I ve been interviewing for my maternity cover today. Its a wierd feeling interviewing people for my own job! Obviously I want them to be good for my boss' sake and so that i dont come back to a mess, but at the same time I dont want them to be too good and show me up! LOL!

Could do with a mid afternoon nap now. Sadly dont think I will get away with that though!

Silly questions here - if baby is going to sleep in a moses basket to start with, what bedding do i use? Is it just a blanket or do I need to swaddle? Its just occurred to me that I have no idea how to put a baby to bed! I have a couple of those gro bag things for when bubba goes in to the cot but I think they are too big to use with a moses basket. Confused!

    Thanks Charli :)
I`ve never swaddled mine, but in the moses basket they have a small sheet and then blankets. If its a bit chilly, then a knitted cardi goes on too, along with scratchmitts ;) But i`d guess that swaddling would replace 1 layer of blankets? xx

ooo, wonder how Lucy is getting on!

good luck to all the boldies!! x

Charlie sleeps in his moses basket in just a sleepsuit, flat sheet and cellular blanket. We're not swaddling him just yet, as he's a little wriggly, and i'm worried about him getting the blanket over his mouth. In about a months time though, I reckon we'll have him in a growbag. All depends on your room temp though what you use. Just make sure you've got a thermometer in the room and some of them also tell you what your baby should be wearing in a certain temp (the ones that you hang on the wall). We've got one of them and also our bt monitor tells the temp.

GP I know will just send me up to the dentist and be quite rude about it (I know this from past experience) - dentist's known about this tooth giving me pain since I was about 8 weeks pregnant and refuses to treat it till the baby comes... so I'm going to have three months of this pain to live through. Last time I went to the dentist - she got quite cross with me about being pregnant to be honest and put me through the most horrifically painful descaling ever - I was shaking and sobbing when I came out - and I don't want to put the baby through that level of stress if that makes sense (I have a massive dental phobia at the best of times).

Praying it's a short-run flareup of the pain... cos right now jumping off a cliff rather than three months of being in bloody agony seems like a very nice option.

  • Sorry about the toothache dizzi. Yoir dentist sounds a right charmer. I hope it eases off for you.
Is there an emergency dentist you could visit on the off chance they would be more understanding and perhaps give you something?

Dizzi is there any way you could see a different dentist? I think the reason pregnant women are entitled to free NHS dental care is because changes in hormones can make teeth more sensitive to decay and disease so it's important to have check ups and treatment if required.
Plus having toothache is horrible and isn't something you should have to put up with. *hugs*

In terms of bedding I think a sheet and a blanket should be OK - I'm not planning on buying a swaddling blanket just because my mum said my sister and I both hated being restrained and screamed if we were swaddled and my MIL has said the same about my OH and his brother.

thegreenroom - do you know if the advice your midwife gave about swaddling is just from the local area or whether it's a NICE or NHS Evidence piece of guidance?

It'll be interesting to see if I receive the same advice as I'm in the Bolton area. Not good news about the highest rates of cot death

Doctors arent supposed to prescribe anything for dental problems and in fact is doing the right thing sending you to the dentist. There is abolutely no reason however that your dentist refuses to treat you, you should complain if they refuse to treat you. It might be worth looking at changing dentists though as they dont sound great if that is their attitude! Sometimes dentists will leave problems during the first trimester as this is the time of greatest risk to foetal development. Not that dental treatment will affect teh baby but that it may be wrongly blamed if something goes wrong. Perhaps if it was just niggling before, your dentist felt that it would wait until the baby was born but clearly it has gotten worse so they should be able to get you out if pain.

Pregnancy hormones dont make teeth more sensitive to decay, the maternity enititlement is a throw-back to when people thought that pregnancy did harm the teeth but it is known now that it doesnt. Hormone changes can make the gums more susceptible to inflammation however but can be easily managed with good oral hygiene.
